Wow, that has been a while! I worked a lot lately.
Finally, vacation :)
Yesterday I did a photoshoot. Hadn´t touched my H1 for a long while.. :(
So I needed to warm-up!

Well, here are the shots.

You know her already..

It´s Kylie, ofcourse!

I would appreciate some critics, comments, etc.
Put a lot of time in this photoshoot. Hope you like them.

I´ve lots more, but I will post them on my site.
I´ll post the link from my site later here!

Cheers,

Patty

as I was thinking about you this morning and that's no joke! So nice to see you posting again, Patty!

Kylie is getting better all the time. Wow! Wish I was 50 years younger......

The light you were working with was not the best for portrait shots. A reflector would help. Even some fill flash might not hurt. That light was very hard and contrasty. You got some blown high lights. A little less exposure might have helped and you could then bring up the shadows in PP.

But after all that nitpicking, you are doing great with that H1, especially under that light and for not having used it for a long time.

Welcome back and don't run off again.

Take the scenic route! Life is too short to do otherwise.

Hi Patty,

I agree with Busch that on the first picture fill flash was needed, otherwise exposure was spot on.

As for the other pictures, I don't know if lowering the exposure would have helped. The sun looks very strong that day and some of the background trees look very dark. The only thing I can think of is, I've seen pros in the city using umbrellas to create shade for the models during their shot.

Sorry I can't be of more help - Nito

Great to see you back on the STF Patty.
Well done on your portraits under harsh lighting conditions. She sure is pretty.

Very nice portraits too. That sun can be a force to be reckoned with, though.

these are very nice.

I guess the hard light was quite a challenge but you handled that very well (some good PP-skill as well?) The result is impressive :)

and the beautiful Kylie.

She knows mostly what to do in front of your glass, and she knows how nice she is.
Now you know the strong sun light is not the best for portraiture.
I guess you feel confident, by next time you can do even better.

My advice: the small sensor camera is not the best for portraiture of this style: is sharp everything, so I might suggest to go wide open, and in the tele range so the background you can blur. Still the flash could be enough(even if you are meters away from the model) to fill some shadows on the face...
Can't wait for the next series!
Thanks sharing these nice photos. (I'm with Bush: should be -50 years)

If you are always telling the truth, you don't have to remember what you said.

You had an excellent looking model.

Sorry, that I neglected you, guys!
How are you doing?
And all your sweet pets?

Thanks a lot for your reply!

It was very harsh to photograph, but the weather was very weird that day. Sun, clouds, rain, sun, etc. So, it was difficult, but we had to do it that day. We don´t live nearby eachother.
So we had to make the best out of it!

Hugs,

Patty

Hi Bush,

That´s so sweet and good to hear!
How are YOU doing????

I´ve tried a lot of portraits with flash, BUT:
1. It takes a lot of time with the H1 to reload the flash
2. Photos have to be good, because you can make less photos
3. Sometimes the flash is to bright
4. Mostly I don´t like photos with flash

BUT:
1. I tried it a lot
2. There came some beautiful shots out of the cam with flash

3. This was my first shoot, mostly with flash (I´ve never used my flash before during shoots)

I´ve done some PP to get the contrast a little bit less..
Think I´ve done well, because I haven´t done any portraits in about 9 months..

And I think I´m improved, because think these are better then the ones from my previous shoots.. (also from kylie and Danielle)
see my website for those shots.

Thanks a lot for your advice.

I will shoot more with flash under these conditions..

We did have an umbrella, but then I need one person more to hold it. We didn´t have that person during the shoot. haha!

Thanks, I really appreciate your advice and I will use it!

Hugs,

Patty
