I did a LOONNGGG shoot yesterday and am just getting around to sorting through them. A local clothing and jewelery designer Consuelo Bellini has some of her stuff in a local boutique. The designer has a long shirt dress in the store and I was already doing a shoot with some clothes in the store and figured let me slap this one on the model. I wanted to go for a fashion shot, fashion crop you would see in magazines well because that is ultimately what I would love to be doing is high fashion stuff so I need to learn it anyway here are two pictures. Tell me which one would work better fashion wise.. or did i miss the mark completely.. Also I have TONS of other pics of the model which are ultra hot that im working on right now so stay tuned for the Heather Lee thread

I agree as i look through all her pics i think she needed to give me a bit more with her eyes and face in some of the shots... i dig this pic.. but i agree it could have been better if there was more to her expression... and im starting to dig the tigther crop because it puts more emphasis on the shirt...
the first one, I like her expression and eyes a little more, however
I feel it could have been pushed a little more, but it's not bad by
any means.

I like the second one better too, i would burn out the ultra white side of the chair though as it distracts me

I think the first (tighter) crop is a better ad. The chair/distant background is an unnecessary addition in the wider version and distracts from the composition. On the first crop, the bit of leg on the left and the bit arm on the right balance each other nicely - and its more focused on the clothes than the model - which is what you want in an ad for clothes.

  1. 1 by far is a better cropping, but i'd darken both the upper and lower right sides with some vignette to remove the distractions there, other than that, i likey!!

If the shot needs to be about the dress/shirt, I don’t think any crop is very good. It seems out of balance. You may want to consider using this contact you have made to gain access in the future to show some great work vrs. showing someone a shot that may not be your best effort. LOL Good luck

You're not selling a shirt. You're selling a self-perception.

Or to put it another way, the underlying desire of woman who buys the shirt isn't "I want to wear a beautiful shirt." It is "I want to be beautiful and desirable." The second image conveys those qualities better than the first.

Comparing these two, the first is better - less distracting, no value adding things in the frame.

A much wider crop would have been a choice over the second, if there was a wider crop.

I've got that 5something camera and the 70 to somethingelse 2.8 L lens.

In the first sentence I meant to say: "Comparing these two, the first is better, the second has more distracting, no value adding things in the frame".

Must get sleep hypnotised
