Sunset Hoops

yp,

Yeah! (warning: speech follows)

This is what photography is all about! Communication. Exceptionally well done, in concept, in execution, and in delivery. You could write an essay in ten pages describing what the end of the basketball season means to you, and still not communicate the message sent in this one simple, effective image.

My understanding of "minimalism" is that it is a style of art in which objects are stripped down to their elemental, geometric form, and presented in an impersonal manner. It is an Abstract form of art which developed as a reaction against the subjective elements of Abstract Expressionism. While certainly no expert or anything close, I think this image deserves a place in the texts as an example of this interesting art form.

My hat is off to you on this most excellent effort.

Sandman...thank you for your comments on this photo...or actually on the meaning of this photo. I'm glad that I was able to get across the feeling through something as simple as this image. Technically it isn't one of my better ones ...but that's what's great about photography...doesn't have to follow all the rules all the time.....again, glad you like this one..yp--YPC2100/B300 http://www.pbase.com/yp

Well basketball season is over for us...this picture kinda says it all

As a basketball fan and occasional playground player myself, I agree that this is a really cool shot. Congratulations! The gradient orange background works in two ways -- sunset, sure, but it's also "basketball" colored, which makes it extra appropriate.

I can't help but embed at least a small version of yp's image, for those folks (like me) who are sometimes too lazy to check out external links and might not appreciate what we're on about here otherwise...

Pretty nice, huh?

Yp, did you do any postprocessing to get the orange so well saturated? Or just underexpose from the start?

Carey...this was actually shot last fall ...early evening...the light was really strange...it was orange! I didn't process this other than resize. I really liked the simplicity of it....sometimes you work a shot..and work it...when something real easy and basic would do a lot better. For me this picture says it all....endings but beginings again...thanks..--YPC2100/B300 http://www.pbase.com/yp
