I am keen to make a bracket to hold the Canon 430EX above my Canon EOS350D. I would like to help support the considerable weight of the flash unit using the threaded "Bracket fitting" which is on the side of the flash body (p.4 Instruction Manual. (Otherwise the hot shoe base is going to be stressed and may break.)

Can anyone please tell me if they have been able to find out what screw thread is used on the "Bracket fitting" on the flash body? (I could not see the answer to this already in the forum.)

Many thanks,

I'm not familiar with that attachment point, but wouldn't it be easier to just try either a 1/4-20 screw, or a similar sized metric screw to determine the correct size and pitch of the fitting, rather than to ask here and wait?

Don't get me wrong, as I'm all about DIY, but it is tough to duplicate the functionality of many modern (cheap) flash brackets, and not spend more cash along the way. Have you looked at available commercial options before you decided to try DIY?

Best of luck in any case. I love DIY diffusers above all, but a good flash bracket is cheap enough that I wouldn't even try to duplicate it on my own. You might have a new angle though, and I hope that you report your progress here.
