I finally decided to take the plunge and purchase a Pro90. B&H showed it out of stock so I called them today to see when it would be back in stock. I was told by the sales person that the camera has been discontinued and they will not be getting any more in.

CAn anyone confirm this? If true any speculation as to why it was discontinued? Should I proceed with ordering from someone else, or are there problems with the camera I'm unaware of?

Thanks for any input on this. ---bob

Hi Bob;

If you decide to buy the Pro 90 (which I took delivery of yesterday) I had great luck with http://www.buydig.com at $688.00 & $26.00 freight. They were very professional and not pushy at all. Plus they have plenty in stock.

The only thing I can tell you is that in my experience, B&H does not lie, so it may indeed be discontinued. While there's nothing wrong with the Pro90, there might be some consequences if you wait a couple of weeks. The price is likely to drop, and just perhaps a new model might be forthcoming (though that is unlikely as the show has ended).

Had five very positive experiences and one with an idiot. There's always a possibility you got some misinformation from the latter, though this could be true. I haven't heard it though.

Is it forbidden for a camera manufacturer, to release models throughout the year? It could be, that Canon want to push the D60 now and release in 2 or 3 months an successor of the Powershot Pro 90.

By the way in September is Photokina in germany. Perhaps there will be the Powershot Pro 90 successor released.

I have asked myself, what is more important, the PMA show in Florida / USA or Photokina in germany, where the G1 was released?

I dont buy the Canon Powershot Pro 90, because of its lack in speed. I do a lot sport photography, so the Powershot Pro 90 is to lame for me. So, I will wait, what Photokina brings up for new camera modells.

Excellent point, too often we consider ourselves the center of the universe, Photokina is indeed a huge show, an announcement there would not be inappropriate. Thanks for the correction to my logic.
