Which one would you choose and why???

They're all shot in manual mode using the "portrait" picture style in the camera (Canon Rebel XTI 400D). I did the PP in DPP. You can read about the adjustments I made below each photo.

These reproductions from DPP to Picasa are accurate.

Thanks in advance!

Are you sure Olie? I think that one has too much yellow in it and not enough red. Note that I changed the white balance from "as shot" one to "shade."

I'm trying to get the "correct" exposure out of the camera at the time of shooting without doing too much PP on my computer. This photo was shot in a shade late afternoon.

Does anyone use any of the picture styles in the canons? Also, I noticed that when I was focusing during the shot, the center focus point would light up, and while I had the shutter button depressed halfway, other AF point would light up as well. Is this normal? Anyone know?

I would choose the last photo for having the most realistic color balance.

Do you have your camera set up to use a single focus point? If not, check your owners manual on how to do this (then use a focus/recompose technique).

Yes, yes! Thank you jgb. You and I see the same way. I also thought the 4th one was the best out of the 5. You're right, I red about the center AF point in the manual and somehow it slipped my mind. Mind you, there are a lot of settings to make to take one correct photo with this camera, and if you forget to re-set the setting, then you're screwed when you take the next exposure!

I like the second picture, I think it's the only one that actually brings out the color of the subjects hair as well has her face. The tree colors in the background are more vibrant as well.

I guess Olie likes the fotos more saturated, so he has naturally selected that one, so the 2nd one even though it has a tinge of yellow, it captures the eye because of the highlighted yellow color.

But for a portrait, i feel the skin should be more natural, so my pick would be the 4th one for its natural colors.

This is great! Thanks guys. I'm actually learning something here. What do you all think about this one:

I went back again to the same image and boosted the color tone and saturation and changed the white balance to "daylight." This is as color accurate as my eyes can see! If that one aint right, then I need to get a serious PP software, or learn to shoot better :-).

Thats the one!

I originally liked the one Ollie picked, as her skin looked too ashen on the other pictures to me. However, this one is by far the best of all, not so yellow as the 2nd one in the original gallery, but not so ashen as the 4th one in the original gallery.

Prefer this one the best otherwise the 4th one in the other group.

Definitely the new one!

Of the first set, I preferred the 5th, though the skin is too grey when sitting side-by-side with this last one.

I suspect that the order in the photos matters too since stepping from one to the next causes you to notice something particular changing.

See Kannan knows how I think ;-)

Yes, I go for the most saturated pictures.. That's how I like my pictures so I suppose that's why I picked the one I picked..
