To process RAW, do I need CS3 or is Lightroom enough?

Hello all,

I'd like to upgrade from my P&S to a Fujifilm S6000fd. I understand I can improve the appearance of my shots by shooting RAW and using a RAW converter. From the examples I've seen on this site, I like the ACR results best.

So, my question is:

Does Lightroom have all the RAW processing abilities of CS3? It's a lot cheaper, and it seems aimed at digital photographers.

Thank you!
Eric.

You do realize that the camera comes with RAW conversion software, perhaps you should give it a try before deciding on an alternative.

But ...

According to Adobe, "Lightroom uses the same underlying processing engine as Camera Raw"

Many Fuji owners use the FREE s7raw application ( MS Windows only ). ( I have used it under Wine on Linux also ). It's a pretty comprehensive RAW PP tool.

Thank you both for your answers!

Hugowolf: the reviewer of the S6000fd on this website said the in-camera RAW conversion clips highlights above ISO 200 and criticized the JPEGs for looking too processed. He said you can fix this doing your own RAW processing.

Sjgcit: Do you know off hand of any website that compares results between ACR and s7RAW?

Thanks again to both of you!
