I just got my 995 and I'm having trouble seeing the LCD Monitor while shooting outside in daylight. I've increased the monitor brightness to maximum (helped a little). But even when viewing the monitor in my shadow (sun to my back) I have a difficult time seeing what I am photographing in the monitor. Is this typical? Is there any other digital camera that has a brighter LCD Monitor?

I know what you mean, but I try to get in a shady spot. If all else fails, I use the viewfinder and check the vague outline in the monitor to see if I have the photo centered where I want it. That usually works.

Very typical. Most all are like that, so are a lot of PDA's. :-)

One solution is to get a LCD hood or loupe. Check out http://www.steves-digicams.com/digi_accessories.html#shades for some LCD shade reviews.

I personally have used the Xtend-a -views and love them. I really like the 2x feature too. Just like looking through a viewfinder then.
