Hi all, Thought I would share a few pics from round 8 of the MotoGP. Any C+C greatfully received...

With the arrival of Moto GP there is also an extra large helping of fences to contend with, so I had to take the pics through the fences
All pics D200 + 80-400vr...

I live only 20 minutes away from Donnington in Burton Upon Trent.

I havent got the lenses to cope with donnington at the moment.

Love the shot of Rossi with all the sh*t up him! what happened??!! :-) was that off the track?!! or did he have an off.

cool shots.

Hopeful for me and my 80-400VR you did THAT with a 80-400VR.....

What where your AF settings??

Wannes
AF-C, spot metering, dynamic focus.

It was a difficult days shooting with all the fences there, but they still did'nt stop the track invasion at the end....

Not quite as sharp but it's been cropped a lot...!

Donnington is NOT photo friendly unless you have a press pass.

I video'd touring cars there last year.

Awful. Just awful.

All viewing areas taken with corporate tents full with people who dont give a toss about motorsport.

Poseures who just want to walk around thinking their posh n becks.

Very annoying it was for me.

He was coming out of the pit lane, looking over his right shoulder, went onto the grass near turn 1 and lost it. 5 minutes later he was giving it the big one again...

The Doctor getting ready to play...!!!

I keep trying to get a pass....I've got more chance of my dog driving me to Scotland...!! Only 29 passes were issued for the Moto GP...

But like you say.. It's a pain in the %$" with all the fences about..That is unless your about 16ft tall
Many thanks for the comments

Great photos! I often see comments that 80-400 is lousy for moving targets but whatever you're doing with it, you seem to be doing it very right !

I see it as you do. That's why I really like 1 2 & 4. Excellent work!

Question to the O/P: what shutter speed on these?

Thank you for sharing!

Very nice shots. Like someone else said, you seem to be doing just fine with that lens. What is your percentage of keepers during an event like this?

D200
18-200 VR, 80-200

great shots jewbag...

Looks like Rossi hit the dirt...I watched the race, but I don't recall him falling?...Edwards had a good race.

Many thanks to everyone for the comments. It was a dreadfull place to shoot at...The reason I could'nt get the shutter speeds down as low as I wanted was because of a large and thick wire fence... a quater of the way between me and the bikes, go to low and all you pick up is blurring of the fence. As you can see from some of my other pics (below) I don't normally have any problems...
With regard to my percentage of keepers, I would say 3-5 shots for 1 good one..

Rossi fell in the morning warm up on the day of qualifying...

For jmark all I can say is...Dont belive everything that people tell you on this forum about the 80-400vr being slow and no good for anything moving, as you can see it is...

These are from British Superbikes..

Nice pictures. This weekend the Dutch MotoGP will take place. I live less than 5 kilometers away from the track and have planned to visit the practise on thursday and friday to take pictures and just watch the races on saturday.

Just one word to describe the motogp photos 'awesome'

These are very good captures :)

Cheers

Brilliant shots. That lens really works well for you.

I was going to go on the Friday but saw the forecast and didn't bother. I think they had 2 inches of rain. The East Midlands airport closed in the afternoon because of flooding.

Where were you standing? I don't like Donington for the Moto GP because of all the catch fencing. It seems to be the only meeting they use it at.

I am off to Knockhill for the British Superbikes on Friday so if I get any decent ones I will post them when I get back.
