Hello. I am about to purchase a E-510, but heard that RAW files are not supported through Photoshop. DOes this also mean that other brands of software cannot support the RAW images from the E-510? If not, please let me know what programs you are using sucessfully to edit RAW from the E-510.

Thanks.

Currently using OLY Master 2.0, which comes with the 510, btw. It does an "adequate" job.

I normaly use Capture One for developing RAW files and FastStone for viewing both RAW and JPEG files. FastStone does not "see" RAW files from the 510.

Both Capture One and FastStone have told me that upgrades are on the way for 510 ORF.

Best . . . .

Third party raw converters usually lag 3-4 weeks after a new camera model is released. Profiles have to be built for each model and little assistance is provided by the Camera manufacturer since they provide their own raw conversion software. Competition is the name of the game. Should be available soon.

That's not too bad - 3-4 weeks. So I will buy the E-510 and use the Olympus Master in the interim.

Thanks, Guys!

in ACR 4.1 (the latest release) - which functions with Adobe Elements 5.0 and Photoshop CS 2. The support is unofficial, which means that they are still in the "tweaking" phase, but I've got to tell you that ACR 4.1 does a superb job!!!

Now the other way you can keep some Adobe consistency is to download the DNG RAW converter 4.1. Then use it to convert your 510 (or E410) ORF files into DNG files. They in turn can be imported via older versions of ACR (i.e. Elements 3.0 and CS 2). It works perfectly. Either way you're covered.

Good shooting...

Actually its high time that camera manufacturers realise that its a plus for the sales of their equipment that the high end raw converters like, ACR, Phase One, Bibble, SilkyPix, DxO and others provide support. I suppose its a chicken and egg situation since how will they provide these software providers with the info and equipment needed to build the profiles without leaking the info into the open market.

good to hear, since the sensor for the E510 is the same as the E410 which is officialy supported in ACR v 4.1 then I believe they are probably using the same profile.

If this is in fact the case it is very refreshing news since in the past Olympus support timing in ACR would lag behind support for new Canon and Nikon models.

And the DNG Converter can even preserve a copy of the original ORF file in the DNG (that obviously takes extra space), and extract it later. That's the approach I'm taking right now until Lightroom gets updated to handle the new ORF files.

I can confirm that, with the plug-in, Elements 4 can read E-510 raw files. However, only the basic and detail tabs are available, nothing else.
