How to pronounce 'bokeh'? Where is the stress?

From the Japanese boke = blur.

Kurt

BO (long O) Kuh as in duh. Does that help ? Or maybe better is BŌ Kǔh.

Thanks for that link, which probably demonstrates the "shortened" sound of the second syllable (especially) as well as one could ask for in print.

As for stress, since it appears to be derived from the Japanese then it's my understanding that the stress would be even, with no particular emphasis on either syllable.

of it when you shoot. I have never said the word aloud, only in my head where I pronounce it bouquet as in flowers.

There used to be a radio jingle that went Did you get a bouquet with your coffee today?" So I just sing that in my head when setting up a shot with beaucoup bokeh.

Well this thread is becoming as clear as mud! I normally pronounce it like "bouquet" but I think it's not like that now.. if you look over the web it looks like many others struggle with alternative pronunciations also!

I think it should be "bouquet" but with a sort of strangulated shortened ending.

I did a quick scan of the web and manged to find a japanese sound file pronuncing it. The problem is that the b looks like it's been truncated at the beginning??

I note the link refers to dementia!
