Long time viewer, first time starting a post.

Just a quick tip. If you downloaded the RAW plug-ins for CS and still are having problems viewing NEF files (like I was). Try re-installing Nikon's Picture Project (bundled with your camera). Make sure you restart your computer after install. Simple as that.

I ran a search and it seems like a lot of folks are in the same boat I was in.

Hope this helps.

Another way is download the last CameraRaw 4.1 and DNGConverter and use DNGConverter to convert NEF to DNG. CS is able to read DNG files so you can use it. This is this way with my D80 and CS

Well, be careful. It's been a couple of years since I tried Picture Project (hated it by the way) but it always used to install a background task that autoexecutes when Windows starts up. The task constantly monitors the USB ports for insertion of a camera or cards. This activity is most likely redundant (and needlessly consuming system resources) as there will likely be other applications (NikonView for example) doing exactly the same thing.

Can you please tell me how you do this. I use CS and a D80 as well. When I convert NEF's to DNG's and try to open in CS using ACR 4.1, I receive a message "unable to use the Camera Raw plug-in. It is not compatible with this version of Photoshop". Perhaps I have installed ACR 4.1 in the wrong folder. I am using the latest DNG converter I downloaded along with ACR 4.1. ACR 4.1 works great in PSE5 but I would like to open NEF's in CS as well.

Thanks

ACR v4.1 won't work in PS CS (it's only compatible with ACR up to v2.4)

Very simple.
I've downloaded the camera raw + dng converter 4.1.

I don't copy the ACR plugin in my CS plugins directory but I use the DNGConverter program to convert my directory with NEF files into DNG files.

CS can open DNG files so I can view/edit/modify my D80 NEF (translated to DNG) without problems.
