Weekly Sports Thread, starting June 9

Are we back to everybody posting his pics, only writing "C&C please" or "Thanks for looking", and completely forgetting about other peoples' shots? I'd suggest we move the WST to the samples forum then...

Maybe we should bring back Ian's idea of everybody who posts shots also having to comment on another poster's images...

My first post to the weekly sports thread.. be kind but critical.
I like them.

Although out of focus, the background is fairly busy. I assume it was difficult to avoid this. I think I would have cropped the leisurly strolling lady (or the upper part of her) in the background of pic #2, in order to focus on the driver (or is it "rider"?). I would consider cloning out the drums and whatever can be seen below the vehicle in #3, but keep the guy in sunglasses, for the same reason.

Nice series of photos. #2 seems a bit flat, maybe a little saturation boost for the horse would be enough. The last one is a great perspective, although I wish the horse was entirely in the frame....maybe if you had rotated the camera slightly or moved to the side a bit more.

Yeah, I saw that for the first shot especially...but I liked the way it looked so left it alone when post processing. Thanks for the kind comments.

Yeah, it was hard to get backgrounds that were easy on the eyes...I had to work around light poles, telephone wires, fences, barrels, spectators, etc. As I was panning and shooting I thought "oh that'll be a great shot!" only to discover that the rider had a telephone pole "growing" out the top of their head. I did some very basic, quick processing to get the images up online and I do plan to go back to do some more heavy duty work on a few of them. Thanks for the kind words and advice.

Nice capture of an interesting moment. I'd clone out that red and white object that looks a bit like a cooler that is on the right edge of the frame.

Nice series of photos.
Thanks!

The white jump fooled the metering and the shot was underexposed. I did a poor correction job. See second attempt posted above.

Fleeting moments... Yes, it would have been nice, but I was simply not fast enough.

Actually, that's typically how it looks along the coast here on Coronado around 7 in the morning. To pump up the contrast would give it an artificial look. I have some shots later in the race when the sun had burned-off the sea-smoke and the shadows are crisp and dark and the color temp is way to the warmish side. Since the race report that went with the pics comments about the weather change during the race I felt it was best to leave the early shots "as is" to illustrate this.

So the lack of contrast was in Mother Nature's hands that morning.

Don't know if this is a sport actually... at least there are
competitions... Anyway, this is one of my favorite shots so far!!
Whether or not it is a sport in its stricter sense, it's nice to have some pastoral counterweight to the ordinary pictures in this thread! :)

Very nice! Please tell the story behind the picture.

"Warriors" seems like a very fitting team name in this sport. It certainly looks like a battlefield. You capture the action very well. I can see why they want you to shoot their playoff and championship games.
