If you set your cameras (1DMkII, MkIII, 1DSMkII, 5D) to their highest quality setting and shoot a scene, what is the size of the file straight from camera? I'm looking for a size like 30MB for instance

5D RAW files come out in the 11-18Mbyte range and the 1DmKII comes out at between 7 and 12M bytes

Lets see your RAW file size and also JPG. I suspect that the RAW will be around 25-30MB and your JPG will be around 4-6MB.

Normal average shooting. For instance I shoot most of my shots at ISO100-ISO400 and NR off.

I've just read a review of the 1DMkIII done by Andy Rouse. His main concern was the file size of the final image Which he claimed was only 28MB. He claimed that this compared with the 5D which has a file size of 36MB. This was mentioned because he submits images to Agencies who will only accept images with sizes of 50MB upwards. So he was saying that he would have to interpolate more from the 1DMkIII than the 5D (where's that news? a FF 12MP image compared to a 1.3x 10MP image).

It got me thinking how he came to the sizes he quoted of 28MB and 36MB.

I took one of my RAW shots from my MkIIn an it shows up as 7MB from the camera. I take it into PS and convert straight to uncompressed TIF and it becomes 46MB.

46.8 MB is the file size for 16 bit Tiff files in a Mark II N. The standard 8 Bit Tiff should be 23.4 MB
