Ok, I know that Sony has crippled the camera so your not allowed to take night shots during the day....

Anyone have a solution around this? A way to "see through clothes"?

What settings do you normally use when photographing yourself buck nekkid on the lawn? Do you recommend a tripod or is it better to ask a passer-by to take the photo for you?

I have found that purchasing a set of "X-RAY SPECS" from the back of a reputable comic book (Marvel seems best) and then pointing your F707 through them you get fair results.

The way they cripple it is to force F2.0 and 1/60s, so that it will be overexposed. If you do full zoom it gets a fraction better ie F2.4 but you need to add filters. Apparently someone said that you can try an Infrared Filter 88a, they cost a small fortune, combined with a neutral density filter. I haven't yet tried but I would have thought just a neutral density filter would have done it?

I also would have thought that an Infrared Filter wouldn't have helped the overexposure, and would almost be redundant because the CCD is already infrared sensitive. Infrared filters are more for SLRs to gain that capability aren't they???

I was thinking something along the line of mirrors (ZipperZ style) and the camera on a tripod. I would suggest for the beginner X-Ray photographer to use aperture priority set to F4. Now have one of the mirrors pointed to capture the expression of passers by and the othe half dozen mirrors pointed at the body. Maybe for extra points one could wear the xray specs while taking the photo!

Hahaha now that would be funny!--Shay - My Sony F707 Gallery: http://shaystephens.com/portfolio.asp

Uh...

I assume you are part of the new airport scanning agency and are needing this info for national security....

I heard the same, an IR Filter, ND Filter, and a CP filter, to be used at different times based on lighting conditions, I slo heard that you cannot do IR (X-Ray) photogrphy unless you have a good incandescent(sp?) light source. Since I believe most airports use flourescant lights, you probably won't be able to use this technology. You're better off with strip searches!

By far the funiest thing Ive ever read on DPReview. You gave a me a 5 minute laugh at the least.

I am sure he is referring to the big deal that was made when Sony first came out with the Nightshot.. It was all over the news. I am not sure if it was not just a bogus ploy at getting free adverstisements.

Unfortinately it is true. Problem is that the mod only hurt legitimate photography as the filters make up for it and x-ray still works.

Take a white paper and black marker. Write something on it then
have somebody shove it under thier TShirt and you film them in
bright sun using your IR filter and it will show through.

NIR lights passes through some clothing where visible light will reflect off of it. It is not a 100% effective but some things you will see and that is why sony crippled the F707.

Guys, guys, guys. C'mon. He's asking a serious question, and it at least deserves a serious answer.

He wants to shoot THRU the clothes with his camera.

What I would do is go to the store and buy a very, very, very large shirt. Or better yet, a pup tent. If the latter, you'll need to sew sleeves on it. Cut a 4" round hole in the front, which we'll be using in a moment. Cut a second hole of about 2.5" just to the side of the 4" hole.

Now, purchase a length of hose, you know the flexible plumber's type about 4" in diameter. You'll need to hook one end up to the tent (make sure to use a very generous amount of duck tape here. This will need to stay on). The other end of the hose will attach to a purchased or rented Wind Tunnel, you know, the type of large blowers that construction workers use.

Get inside the tent, your head through the top and arms in the sleeves. Hook everything up, plug in the blower. And pray that nobody's watching.

Have your assistant place the camera into the 2.5" hole. Snap away. You can even shoot movies with this method!

You know a side benefit of this method would be that while the fabric is inflated you have a safe and effective cushion against falling or running into things. In fact with such a setup you could become quite cavalier and actually run headlong into danger free from the fear of getting hurt in your "photography bubble".

I am assuming that this would have to be battery powered when you are away from home. If you were on assignment, you could have a little wagon attached that would trail you and contained a solar array and battery sysytem that would continuosly power the blowers and charge the batteries.

Makes me wonder why no one ever thought of this before. Or if they have, why it is not yet available on the market.--Shay - My Sony F707 Gallery: http://shaystephens.com/portfolio.asp
