Now that amazon dot com owns this site, you can't really expect objective views about any digital camera or any manufacturer's equipment. I wou;d recommend moving on!

I forget, does Amazon make Canon or Nikon cameras? Or is it Sony that they own? It's all so confusing.

the greed gets bigger when it comes from the little guy , while a big corporation is often more balanced. Whoever sold the forum (and the rest of the site but mainly the forum) made a deal using the people in it. That's not greed, that's something else, but still we're talking about money

why Canon kept some distance from this site? bigger distance lately?

there must be a reason...

It's a good thing for a review site to be owned by a retailer.

If you had any doubt that dpreview was under "advertising pressure" from some camera maker, you can believe the tide has turned. All doubts are cleared.

All camera makers are to some degree at Amazon's mercy. Dpreview will be able to (or continue to be able to, belief depending) publish unfettered reviews.

I wonder how many more negative and speculative posts you are going to make about this sale?

More kit than i probably need.

your opposite

let's pretend that you are a retailer. You know that you make more money on certain products and less money on other products.

guess which one you'll try to push?

I am a photographer and you ask me which is better a 4x6 print or 5x7?

I make 3 cents on the 4x6 and 25 cents on the 5x7 : guess which one I'll say it's better

but it gets even more complicated: in order to sell the hot stuff the distributors will make you buy the stuff you don't sell easily: let's pretend that I need 1000 1D mark III but in the order I have to include other products . The other products will receive stellar reviews and the forum will be filled with people reporting how fantastic the products are (you bet on that, wait and see).

and so on

independence is always a good thing (and a myth at the same time.. lately).

in any case I don't buy this independence at all costs from anything making money with the ads, but at least there was a "perception" of independence: today we all are under amazon and amazon do sell the stuff we're discussing about in here.

I will enjoy this opportunity to tell what I think until my name will be deleted . I used to read the imaging resource forum. Then Canon made a mistake about the price of the 1DIII. The site reported the price as Canon gave it to them. Then the price was corrected and the site ran to do the same, eheh like they work for Canon (directly I mean)

the sad part is that we (people and users) have eyes and we see things.

You can't say "I love you all, my beloved posters" and then do the opposite - not reporting a price adjustment means that you care about the relations with canon more than you do for the good of your readers and contributors

then this site goes to a on-line retailer.. great. Now what else can happen? B&H will still get good reviews in here? me thinks not (not likely, not right away but give it some time and you'll see...)

and don't get me wrong, B&H does it for the money just like everybody else, but at least I don't have to hear that they do it for the good of the people.

but the deal came with a forum , and the only thing Amazon can do now is to delete the posts they don't like: still the original idea of a forum stays in the fact that every one can post freely. If you don't like it then you can delete the post, of course: but that's not a forum my friend a fellow poster.. that's something else...

and I see already the amazon forum police in action

LOL

Only because you have never and will never be in Phiil's position can you not imagine doing what he did. I, in NO WAY, blame Phil for what he has done. Jealous is more the word to describe how I feel!
