Hi

My current operative system is win95 and I need to upgrade it to winme to get my software running.

Here´s my problem. I´m a idiot, so somebody please tell me how to get rid of win95 and prepare for winme.

I tried but it doesn´t seem to work I think I may have to remove win95 from my pc before I install winme. How do I remove a operative system from my pc????

Firstly, there are two versions of WinME. There's the upgrade version which installs straight over the top, then there's the version where you need to uninstal first: the full, stand alone version. Check which you've got.

If you've got the full version, then you'll have to format the drive first. Reinstalling everything is straightforward but takes a lot of time and preperation. You'll need all your drivers for your video card, sound card, etc. You'll need to back up all your data because when you format the drive you'll lose everything.

Post again about which version you've got, check to see that you've got everything you need, and indicate just what level your knowledge is, and I'll try to help you.

Hi

As Ian said you don't need to get rid of one version of WIndows to go to a higher one, you just install over the top.

A word of caution with ME, from my experience, and the experience of other people I know, you may be better with the final version of 98 or Windows XP. There have been all sorts of problems with ME, particularly getting drivers for it.

I had so many problems after 2 days I backed it out and put in 2000.

My recommendation would be don't do it, try 98, 2000 or XP.

I'd second what MJP said about WinME - that is, don't ! All the PCs we bought at work with ME preinstalled are now running Win2000 due to problems with ME.

Also, Microsoft don't have an upgrade path from ME - if you want to go to 2000 or XP in the future you get to buy a full license. That tells you something !
