Hi,

A friend of mine is looking for a good all-round camera, but it must be especially good at macro photography.

So, which one would you choose? Nikon? Or another brand?

Thanks,

J.

Nikon is generally considered the best at Macro, the coolpix 995 and 5000 can get as close as 2cm. Ricoh is also pretty good at macro, and the upcoming fuji finepix S602Z has a super macro mode as close as 1cm.

The Nikon CP 990/995 are prbably the best on the market. I have the 990 and it gets me into places my 35mm can't go. I've gotten great hand held shots, too, I'll have to try a tripod one of these days!

Here's a similar shot - also 995, straight out of the camera. With this one I used the built-in flash which is the main reason for posting this one ... so you can see what happens with macro/flash from the 995.

is a dead cockroach, laid out on a piece of photocopier paper, with lighting from a large nearby window (also straight out of the camera)

and finally ...

is one of my favourite flower shots (again, straight out of the camera).

here's a neat image of a locust strait out of my coolpix 995
