Sorry to ask such a general question, but I've yet to find some usable information on what is a good starting point.

I'd want a telescope for general use (sky watching, spying on neighbors (kidding), that kind of thing) and I'd like to try taking some astro-photos with it.

So I spied this Nikon FSA-L1 Digital SLR Camera Adapter:

I assume this works only with Nikon telescopes? Which Nikon Scope would be a good match for this?

Are there other reasonably priced solutions that would work well with the D200?

Any sources of reviews and information that you would like to share?

I'd be grateful for all and any information on this topic.

First, learn about astronomy and telescopes before you open your wallet. You will probably need an EQ mount and a proper tracking motor if you're interested in astrophography. There are a variety of methods of attaching a camera to your telescopde including a T-Adaptor or even Eyepiece projection which may not work well with a DSLR + lens. You will also need to learn about techniques in astrophotography, such as image stacking and darkframe subtraction. Study up before leaping.

In the spirit of Occam’s Razor one should embrace the less complicated formulation or simply put, less is more.

this isn't a very long thread, but I thought some of the feeback was pretty informative on this subject. astrophotography sounds really awesome to me, and it's something I'd like to get into if I ever get a proper telescope.

one thing I was wondering about is which camera system is better geared toward astrophotography... canon or nikon. Or if it really maters

Low light performance is quite important for deep space imaging, nebulae etc. I've seen great images from Nikons, but all but the most bigoted Nikonian will probably admit Canon has the edge for this. Canon has even made a version of the 20D made for astrophotography with less filtering for better reds (hydrogen) in deep space objects. Then again if your going to choose a camera for nothing but astrophotography I think your money's better spent on a dedicated astro CCD.

I've been meaning to try using my D200 on my 8" Celestron, but it's not easy. I have a T adapter for the scope and a F mount to T adapter. But I've had little luck getting good focus, but I haven't tried extensively. I rarely have a good view of dark skies from my porch.
