Single Bloom

Hi Larry

well we both are right in a way. The flower is of Magnolia soulanginiana (suacer magnolia) which is a deciduous variety of Magnolia. Beause of the simmilarity of the flowers to a tulip many call it (by mistake) a Tulip Tree. The commonly called magnolia is Magnolia grandiflora which is indeed ever green and everything else you have mentioned about it was correct too. However, there is such a tree who's common name is tulip tree (Liriodendron (..something)) but his flowers are about 2" wide and hardly seen because its leafes cover him most of the time.

Because this error is so wide spread it wasn't too dificult to get me confused about it too - had to check my Sunset book

Hi Larry
Great shot - magnolia, isnn't it? yes, its time for them to bloom -
how exciting - I miss these trees so much - aren't they native to
your neck of the woods? thanks for bringing it

Incredible Larry! Color and detail fantastic! That new lens with 1.4 is fabulous, but the guy taking the shot is the "prime" example of the best on this forum.

Kind regards,

Hi Larry,

Beautiful photograph. Really amazing clarity and detail. Love your composition choice. Very pretty presentation fit for the beauty of this flower. My wife has been in the hospital for a few days (ok and coming home today) and I have missed a lot here. This could be a full time job viewing and responding to the photo posts. Your's are always a priority view for me, as they always please! Curt A.

Hi Curt, I'm sorry to hear your wife hasn't been feeling well and I know your glad for the homecoming. I hope it was nothing serious and do wish her a speedy recovery at home. It is very kind of you to give me a view and it really means alot to me! I do appreciate that since I know you are a very busy man. Best wishes to you and to your wife and child. Thank you so much Curt.
with much respect,
Larry
