How´s the beer in Finnland?
Mostly rather tasteless.

Some smallish breweries make a decent brew but they can be
difficult to get.
Ok ok, Thomas just told me in the chat that Finns drink Vodka in
saunas ;)
Yeah, the traditional Finnish heart test: Sauna, sausage, vodka and beer, and then take a swim in the lake directly from the sauna. If you don't immediately get a stroke, you'll prolly survive the weekend.

Cheers,

May 17th (thursday) is a holiday here in Finland. I will be near or at the target allready then.

Those with the heavy artillery (like the 200-500 or 300-800) inform me and I will arrange tripods, no need to transport those.

Also for the panoheads, what type of tripod's is needed and type of adapter if special.

Special transportation service is available if needed. (also if Wojtek comes a small car that needs three to push is available;-)

Any questions either here or to my email. Please ask.

For the beer I will have a comittee to sort it out. At least during winter it is cold enough.
Sixpack in ice

It seems I have no plans for that weekend so I'll be there.

I can give a ride for at least one person, possibly three, from the Helsinki Airport to Hämeenlinna on Friday and then back on Sunday.

Cheers,

Arrrrgh! Why did you have to choose the only weekend in May that I can't do?

I would love to join you, it's about time there was another meet in Europe, but it's the one weekend in May that I'm too busy. Finland in May should be beautiful.

Thanks,
Gary.

That's middle of my exam week :( But I live so close that I can probably make at least a short visit there.

Thanks for the invite to the users group meeting in Finland. I checked Aloha and Hawaiian Airlines and neither of them fly direct to Helsinki. I was advised I could fly to Alaska and go by dog-sled over the north pole but every sled was booked. I did check out your pictures of the different places - one thing I might suggest is smaller copyright notices as they are large enough that they interfere with the image.

Hope you guys have a great time. Post us some reindeer pictures - and some sun shots if it is around then!!

I have made some queries on flights and it certainly is not expensive.

These are very much standard prices. If you do some search the prices cna be very different down to a 0.25€ that I have seem.

Ofcourse they charge one for the cup of coffee etc to get your money.

Also at different days of the week the prices can be substantially different, both when you travel and when book your the flights.

Also from which website you are directed to booking makes a difference.

I will ask permission from the Boss (read: female in charge of my miserable existence).

It will be easier than getting permission to buy the SD14!!!

Are there any cheap airlines from Paris? I think Air France killed/bought them all...

Must check...

Gonçalo, I just looked quickly, but there is an Easyjet service from Paris Charles De Gaulle to London Luton. National Express gives transit busses over to London Stansted to get the flight Aaro recommended.

Total cost: 60 euros or so round trip for most of the journey -- if you can get the times to match up. I didn't check this, but note the bus at london takes 90 minutes, and runs once or so an hour.

I imagine the train from Tampere to Hameenlinna is about 20 Euros or so, and less than an hour.

Finland is a special place - hope you and others get to enjoy this.

Regards,
Clive

Just checking Aaro's message, he found a very cheap Liverpool-Tampere. So you can take the Paris CDG-Liverpool on Easyjet, which is a few more 'bob' as the British say, but compensated.

And since you come and go from Liverpool, no transit bus!

Again, you have to match up the possible times yourself, and see if there are any overnights etc.. And if you don't know it, be sure to book early - these economy flights operate as a kind of auction, and it keeps getting more expensive...
