Dear Sirs,

I got Pentax k110d with kit lens. Had before Tamron 28-300mm XR and Sigma 24-135mm. Sold both, was not really happy about quality. Sigma 24-135mm was really good day time, but in-door big r...sh!

I am considering now buying one zoom lens to use on K110d and not sure wich one to go for:
Sigma 18-200mm
Sigma 18-125mm
Tamron 18-200mm

I have read a number of reviews on the above lens, but all of them were tested on canon 350d or some other camera , but not on pentax.

In the end of one review was adviced before buying the lens better to take the camera to specialist shop, try the lens and see how it works on it before buying.Same lens gives different results on different makes of camera.

Went to Jessops today...they do not keep in stock this type of lens for Pentax and they need to be odered. I have tried it on Canon...but will it be the same on Pentax???

Please advice which one of the above lens performes better on Pentax k110d? If can advice some other zoom lens will be nice.
Thanks

I have Sigma 18-125mm and although not stellar it is a good walk around. I suspect the others are worst in IQ. On the other hand 125mm is not very long.

Just my 2 cents.

I, like you, have looked for a do-it-all lens for quite some time, only was looking at the 18-200 VR lens for Nikon. I've since converted to the K10D, and after MUCH careful research, discussion forums (you'll find some in this SLR forum) have decided to restrict the zoom range to get the better image quality, and so am in the process of purchasing the Sigma 17-70 f2.8 macro, for not much more than the cost of the kit lens.
My Rational:
wide end is important to me, which this covers well (about 26mm on camera) same with macro shots, not the very best, but above average I believe

telephoto end when & if inadequate, I'll either try to get closer to the subject if possible, else crop since I will potentially have a 10MP image

Proof of image quality of the 17-70 can be found on many sites, but I particlary like the visual 3D distortion graphs at:

http://www.slrgear.com

A lot of lens test results can be found here

Can't give you specific advice on the camera you have, but just wanted to let you know the direction I've decided to head in.
Cheers...

Had a look at the "Blur Index" (sorry, not distortion), and the 18-125mm seems the pick of the bunch you're considering.

Thanks a lot Jack, I will try to look around.

New Sigma 17-70mm cost 229£, not really cost of kit lens. I am not sure if I will be able to get used one on Pentax. will try anyway.

I have read some very nice word about sigma 17-70mm DC, the only
question is if it will perform as good on pentax as on Nikon?
A lot of forum members are very happy with it. As the sensor variants Nikon uses are very similar to those Pentax uses, I don't think you'll notice a lot of different performance.
