After rebate, circuit city online has a 2 GB san disk extreme III memory card for $54.

I think this is overkill for our point & shoots, but san disk advertises this card as being more reliable, etc. And it's cheaper than the "ultra II" version of the card anyway!

reporting back - I got the card yesterday.

In continuous P mode with IS on, my old card (regular speed I'm assuming) would fire 7 shots in a ten second period. The new extreme III card allows for 20 shots in same period. :)

I guess that's not a horrible in store price, but if you order from the internet, you can get high speed 2GB cards for around $20 - $25 dollars and thats without the hassle of a rebate.

I really like the Sandisk cards and think you'll enjoy your new Extreme. I'm in the market for a 4GB or 8GB card in the SDHC format.

What kind of camera did you get 20 shots in 10 seconds from. Isn't that faster than your manual advertises? Good work!

Curious how you know that information.

I work for a board-level component supplier and you sound like you know the current status of the industry fairly well.

And you can get some brand's 1 GB cards for free after a rebate... But to me, there is a difference in brands - and it's well worth a few bucks to get a card that I know will have the best chance of retaining it's data after a vacation or important shoot.

Think of it this way - if you were shooting twenty years ago and getting ready for a trip - you'd spend several hundred dollars on film and processing (anyone here remember buying Chrome in "bricks"?)

So getting the best card (in my opinion of course) for $54 which can potentially allow me to take tens of thousands of images is a pretty nice deal!

My G7 shot the 20 ( maybe 19) in ten seconds. Nothing scientific, waited till the second hand of my computer's clock said zero and held button.

I doubt I'll ever actually shoot 20 shots in ten seconds outside of this test - but I like the Extreme because I've been lead to believe that in addition to speed, it is highly reliable.
