The Luminous Landscape Video Journal

My buddy subscribed. I borrowed the first two. I found it useful if you plan to shoot at those locations. It kind gives you a little orientation of the surrounding and Mike is very good on sharing tips with you, especially on timing, position, and gear suggestion.

The equipment review, photoshop tutorials, and photographer interviews are not my interests, maybe others will appreciate them.

I think Mike's website is one of the best if you want to learn various techniques and instruments.
Has anyone bought (or seen) The Luminous Landscape Video Journals?

These look very interesting (and the site is wonderful), but it's a
lot of money to spend to see if it's worth it.

I subscribed, and initially thought it seemed like quite a bit of money (as say compared to a magazine subscription).

After reviewing the first two, I'd say it is a bargain. The production values are extremely high. Professional filming, broadcast quality, original music (that is excellent) and dvd delivery.

As far as the content goes they are doing a real range of stuff, no doubt trying to find some segments that will appeal to everyone. The second one is better from the first, and from posts on the website, the third is better yet.

I posted there yesterday with feedback that I would like to see more attention paid to composition because that's what I need help on. Reichman already responded in the forum saying that they appreciated the feedback and would try to incorporate the suggestion.

The photoshop tutorial they had in #2 was quite good.

I also like the on location shoots - motivates me to GET OUT THERE.

Most of us don't think twice about many hundreds for lenses, filters, or the 10th or 11th $100 camera bag. This represents about 6 hours per year of tutorials and more. I'm glad I subscribed.

I have the first 3 disk and believe me it worth it !!! You have so much good stuff on the DVD (because it comes on a DVD) that you want to listen and watch every seconds of it !!! For the moment, I am very happy with it... Good service, it comes in the mail box (it is not by Fedex or UPS)every 3 months. It fits in a regular CD cardboard envelope.

Again beleive me the concept is very good !!!

These days, they have a promotion

DIRECT FROM THERE WEB SITE:

"Subscribe to The Video Journal Now
And Save 50% on Back Issues #1 and #2"

It is the place to go...

This is not advertising it is just my opinion...

PS: I am sure Phil subscribed to it !!!

An other thing Michael H. Reichmann speaks about the news upcoming camera from Canon... He said that... (find out in disk #3) ;-)

Don't start a rumour of this E-MAIL he only said that something new from Canon is coming...

I subscribed back in early December, received backissue #1 for free, #2 at the same time, just got #3 about a week ago. They feature interviews with pro landscape photographers, gear reviews, and trip reports. Very nice. I quite like them, and Michael Reichmann and friends continue to improve the format as they go. He seems very responsive to email feedback and knows who his audience is, which is the vital thing to know when producing video.

His 400mm DO lens review made me very much want one. If only I had some children to sell...

I, too, have all three issues. The first issue was dry and a bit short on content. The second was a marked improvement over the first. It also has a nice Photoshop tutorial on Duotones. The third, which I have not finished watching yet, has an excellent segment on Bosque del Apache. I went there in Nov 2000. Watching the LLVJ's BdA segment made me want to go back again as soon as I can! The third issue also has a nice, informative and honest review of the Canon 1D.

I didn't think I'd be all that interested in the "other stuff" on the DVD. Interviews, location shooting in places I never thought I'd want to go, etc... But I have to tell you, it really is a joy to watch. Listening to how CC Lockwood got started in the business was quite interesting.

I want him to start including outtakes on the next issue. There's bound to be some funny moments during all the filming!
