Ice Fishing

In Minnesota we do what some might think odd: wait until the lakes freeze over, drive out on them and then fish through the ice. It really was a great day to be out on the ice, it got close to 32(F), and my youngest caught his first Northern.

Check out the vignetting in the corners on the second photo. I know that with the lens on my P880 this is to be expected, but what makes this more or less apparent? The reason I ask is that I've taken plenty of outdoor winter photo's with my P880 and this is the worst I've seen. In fact, I can't remember ever noticing it before.

It shows up more in a shot with a solid color such as the blue cloudless sky in these shots. It is really not that bad. There are programs to correct it, I use Helion Filter. Nice fish by the way.

Looks like you had the perfect day for it! Your son looks proud of his catch! I would be scared to drive out on the ice. My son ice fishes, and here is a picture from about 4 years ago (he is now a lot taller & a lot thinner) with his Musky he got. It took him 45 minutes to reel it in, he had 8 lb. test, and a minnow for bait!

A pic for childhood memries, he'll never forget this day...nor will you. Congrats, and thanks for sharing.

Joseph,

Great shots. I love the one with the boy holding the fish.

As for vignetting, is it possible you had the lens hood positioned incorrectly? It CAN be put on in a way that causes vignetting -- been there, done that. Be sure the KODAK lettering ends up on top.

If not that problem, then did you have a filter on the lens?
