I´m going to buy a digital camera. I have been looking on Casio QV3000Ex and Nikon Cool Pix 990. Is there anybody who can help me choose?

Which one have ?
1.sharpest pictures ?
2 the best colors ?
3 the best menu ?
4 the best auto focus ?
5 does the IBM´s Microdrive works good in Casio ?

Or are there anyone which is better ?

Thanks for helping and best regards.

The 990's image is probably the best overall, sharpness and detail definition, colours are exactly as the original poster and whites are very good.

Hi Olle..

my bias is based on real life experience. Started with the original Nikon 900,

then had a great offer to sell it at little loss to "upgrade" to another 2 Megapixel

of a different make. Loved all the things the Nikon did before and was disappointed
with the new one. So I waited for the latest Nikon, sold the other one and now

enjoy all the additional features to many to list here. The swivel mount and the extreme close-up capability of the Nikon makes this my choice without a doubt. Sharpness is supberb and the total control over picture taking is unmatched. You should not be sorry choosing the Nikon!

I have had the same dilemma. While I agree that Nikon has great quality equipment, they are

overpriced (especially the Nikonos underwater range). I am getting the Casio for the Microdrive

and as it has a Canon lens and a Sony CCD then the difference is more in value towards the Casio.

Your opinion would be improved if you see one in the flesh. I also particularly like the Casio menu
layout but that is a personal preference thing.

Cheers Glen

You will probably hear a lot of Nikon tales. But just take a look at the deal by
looking at the price and quality on the same scale. For the same price, you get
the microdrive on the Casio. The quality of the camera is great, especially with
the canon zoom lens (No, Im not mistaken. The casio 3000 comes with a
superb Casio Lens). Its menu and features blow the competition away !!!

Nikon no doubt is good, but on a "Price+Quality" scale, Casio wins hands down.

More people drive Fords than Porsche. Does that mean a Ford is a better car? " Millionaire" is the top rated TV show on the air. Is it the best thing on the tube? You seem to think that following the masses is preferable to being discriminating and doing research to determine what camera a person is comfortable with. I've heard a lot of brand owners ( certainly not just Nikon ) go to great lenghts to justify their choices, but yours is the most inane yet.

I own quite a few Nikon SLR cameras. I purchased the Coolpix, the QV3000, and the Sony F505 at once, when I was trying to make my digicam dicision. The Casio just stood way out in features, control, quality, STORAGE. (I returned the other two).

I love the colors, pictures, menu. The microdrive will hold a TON of pictures (2054 in economy mode)...you never have to worry about having enough memory. If you purchase the Nikon, you'll spend an arm and a leg on memory to match the Casio.

The software that comes with it to load pics to your pc works great. Never have had a failure.

Its Night mode is PERFECT. I have NEVER seen such nice pics from a digicam during night time hours. It even has a Bulb setting.

Also, take the other persons suggestion and go read the Nikon forum. You'll never see SO many unhappy customers. Nikon is putting out allot of malfunctioning cameras right now...not to mention the shortages everywhere.

It really is an unbeatable value. I recommend it.

I made my decision by looking right on this site here: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/casioqv3000/default.asp?page=10

Even tho the American camera package with the micro disk is a good storage value, the Casio can never match the calibre of picture quality, and it is mostly made of plastic, so what value would you be getting?

Good luck in a difficult decision.

I don't know, I will probably have to disagree with the "plastic" part of the statement. I've got the QV-3000EX and I actually like the plastic case. It is just about the right weight (not too heavy/not to light) and fits perfectly in your hands. I have taken a look at alot of digitals with metal cases and they all seem too heavy. I'm not worried about dropping it either because I would kill myself if I dropped any digital camera. may the strap be with you
