Hallo all,

I read quite a lot that people state that a newer VR (VR II?) is better than the original VR.

For instance, that the VR in the 18-200mm lens is better than the VR in the 24-120mm lens.

How do people know this and why is it better?

Also, how can I know what VR is being used by looking at the product specifications?

Thanks
Jacques

well it's simply a new VR generation and nikon tells themselves that's about one more stop more effective

The exact product name should have VR II in it. if it's just VR in the name it should be VR I. maybe check the nikon page for exact product name, it should be stated in the description as well.
Thanks

The problem is that all VR Nikkors have simply "VR" in the product name - on the box, on Nikon websites and on the lens itself. To find out whether a lens has VR or the later VR II, it is necessary to check the lens specification page on the websites, or the instruction manual. If this does not mention which type of VR it has by name, then a lens which has VR is generally described as giving 2-3 stops worth of stabilisation, a lens with VR II is generally described as having 3-4 stops.

It's all very confusing!

The only lenses with VRII so far are:
18-200 VR
105 macro VR

Others are all VRI

Please correct me if I were wrong

I have the 70-200mm VR I and the 105mm VR II and can't tell the difference.
But VR is great!!
