shutter cycles

Hi all,new to the forum,can anyone advise,what happens when the 200,000 or 100,000 shutter cycle ends.can it be replaced.

The camera will self implode !!! and out of the flames and fumes an hyponotic aura will form that will urge you to buy or covet more CPS products !!!

Seriously nothing, it is only a rating. All my 1DM2 bodies and my 5D (is almost there) have well and truely passed their expected life span and guess what they are still working. Makes me feel like I'm living on the edge ;-)

Think of it similar to a vehicle warranty, the vehicle doesn't stop dead the day it runs out.

Besides, when some thing does break after its expected life you know you got your extra moneys worth.

many thanks,just one point,can the shutter be replaced,surely the whole camera does not need replacing.

The shutter can be replaced by itself; the whole camera does not need to be replaced (did this on an EOS 3 once).

A service centre can replace the shutter assembly quite easily for a couple of hundred dollars.

However, once you have a couple of hundred thousand shots on your body, the rest of the mechanics start to wear as well i.e. the buttons, dials etc all start to show wear including some of the "weather seals".

You can get a CPS tech to refurbish/service them if you want but I usually just sell my bodies after about 2 years or so, most of canon's pro gear still retains a decent resale value even if it has been used extensively.

My shutter release button quits after 3K. I sent it back to Irvine for repair. When I got it back, the shutter release button quit after 50 shot. I sent it back 2 days later.

Is my camera lemon?
