Pics from the weekend: Yet another taste of winter

Hi everybody,

After a long time of just lurking around, thought I'd finally post something. Saw some really nice pictures posted from south of Finland earlier here, so I decided I'd make a contribution from the north of the country as well .

Saturday was a bit chilly at around -20C (-4F) (unusually cold for early November), but since it was sunny and almost everything had gotten a nice frost coating, it was really a brilliant day for going out and taking a couple of photos. Was almost giddy to take my good ol' FZ-3 out (yeah, FZ-three, not thirty ). The camera worked brilliantly in spite of the cold weather, and I really love how easy it is to use, even with my mittens on.
Anyway, here are some shots from my walk around the area where I live:





Still lots of bright red berries on the rowan trees:





The water in the river was giving off a lot of vapor, I guess because of the temperature difference between the air and the water. There were several people fishing in the mist:



Sometimes I wonder how the birds manage through the winter.



The frost makes the scenery look sometimes like an infrared photo.

Those are great shots! Frost is really nice when photographed well and you did! Love the one of the guys in the boat and the frost smoke from the river/lake. Thanks for sharing!

Pretty cold up there in the north! I like your images Jukka. Especially the last four ones: these really have a feeling of beautiful bright winter day.

Alas, the little snow what we have here in Helsinki area might melt away next week as the temperature is going up.

Winter is setting in over there. However your eye can still spot beauty, that is a good talent to have. I like all of them. #4 & #6 are v nice. #5 however is a work of art. The only downside ( a little one) is the light tower top left.

My faves are Red Berries and Fishing in the Mist but they're all bone-chillingly good. And you're right, the last one does look like IR with the white trees. Don't lurk, post more shots from northern Finland! Very unique views...

These are wonderfully NICE winter shots. Winter comes early in Finland. Very hard to decide which is my favorite, either #2,3,4,5,6,7. Hmmm. Maybe the last one. No, the men in the boat. Uh, I like the little bird. Maybe the branch with the blue sky. All are well done.
