How many of you would appreciate that feature on their 30D? and how would you rate it (just ok; no thanks; very nice; to pay for; to die for...)?

That is, allowing for automatic ISO selection up to a selected upper limit in P, Av, Tv, M modes? (as seen on Pentax k10d, Nikon D80&D200, maybe other cameras as well...)

e.g. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond80/page10.asp (see K10D preview & D200 preview for other examples)

The likeliness of Canon adding that kind of sweeties through firmware update is being debated in another thread, so please stick with this "feature attractiveness" and try to state your opinion clearly and concisely.

Personally, I'd like it A LOT as I find myself changing iso quite often. My only real gripe with my 30D so far...

Thanks for your attention!

maybe use the Subject field to put your summarized feeling instead of "RE:RE:RE: Poll..." might help for readability

... which can save some shots when you just have to take them and make life easier for many users...

For those that don't like this, want the control etc they just don't select the auto :)

Most of the time I wouldn't want to have it changing. Especially if i was taking longish night exposures I may want to use a lower ISO to try and reduce noise (I first need to experiment to see if that technique would be effective or not!)

Retaining full control in M, Av, Tv & P is a necessity. So yeah, much like the nikon implementation.

Can it be achieved just by the firmware?

I had 300D earlier where canon had chosen to disable FEC and people hacked to firmware to enable it.

Is is possible with 30D?

I would love to have Auto ISO that is user adjustable (i.e. Auto between 200-800... Auto between 100-400... Etc. with a safety shift if needed)

I can't speak for Canon but I'd think so! Iso is auto adjusted in the AUTO mode (100-400). I'm guessing it's going for higher iso under a defined policy... I assume it wouldn't be too hard to apply that kind of iso policy in other modes and maybe add a minimum shutter speed selection too (much like nikon's fashion; in custom functions menus).

Even if it takes some time and thoughts to implement, as long as it's technically possible, I want it and I need it.

A justification of this need would be non constant aperture lenses (which I happen to possess). When you change focal length in Av, your aperture varies and sometimes allows for a lower iso or requires a higher iso. Canon EF-L lenses users staying in f/2.8 or f/4 across the whole zoom range might not find an urgent need of this maybe. I'm just guessing...

While I can see a use for auto ISO and some combinations for IOS+TV and ISO+AV priority modes,

Since I don't use any of the programmed modes, having auto ISO down there is absolutely worthless to me. {I only use Tv, Av, and M}
