Am I right in thinking that there should be no import vat duties etc fom Europe from one member state to another .

In which case do we have a best deal in EU .... and can anyone recommend a good interent seller in their country .

I must say I am not convinced by Pentax UK so am keen to buy in Europe if there is a good deal

Sweden: Cyberphoto, at http://www.cyberphoto.se

But I never thought of Sweden as particularely cheap. I think the best deals in Europe are done by buying in Germany. (tekade for example) We also have Pixmania (based in France) but hey seems to have different prices for different countries they are selling to. You can check their offers. They usually sends a user manual in French and I know some don't like that. But what does it matter? You can download the manual in English. Another German reseller is TechnikDirekt, works just fine (I bought my Epson printer there as it was significantly cheaper than in Sweden) but may not have the absolute lowest prices.

I can understand that after having read various posts on the topic. In general I would encourage importing your stuff, at least the parts not available in UK, and those that are sold at a way too high price.

You don't know me (yet) but as soon as I can get my mitts on a K10/GX10 I shall be joining your wonderful, informative, friendly gang here. There is only one firm that I can tell you about, they are based in Germany, and the only times that I have hed dealings with them, they have been very courtious and helpful, with excellent prompt delivery too. See below.

Although living in Luxembourg, I think I can recommand the following dealer. They have the K10D body for €929. I bought my DA 12-24 from them and they were fast and reliable.

True, Tekade are very helpful. Their prices might not be the lowest possible, but they get the stuff, which is more than some cheaper sites can say. I was told at Photokina that they are among the few dealers that get the first shipments for new Pentax gear.

Don't worry about Pentax UK. The official K10D price in the UK is going to be £650ish for just the body, street price is going to be £599, confirmed by some dealers, look back in the forum for this, as they have been asked by Pentax not to list this price yet. I have already pre-ordered at £599. With delivery early November. Cheaper than France (£609). I have not yet had confirmation of price from technikdirekt in Germany, but will think it to be in the same ballpark.

My recommendation is for UK people, that if the UK dealers off a a good price, support them.

Mike

The cheapest I saw till now: topfoto-de
Body- alone 879€ and with 18-55 959€

Mike, did you order from SRS aswell?

Yes I did and so did my collegue, who spoke to Chris yesterday.

Chris has been asked by Pentax not to list that nice price for a while and asked us not to mention that price on the forum.

Since Chris was the first to offer it at a good price, I decided to go with him.

Now all I have to do is wait until November.

Cheers

Warehouse Express in the UK are listing the body only at £649.99 - so I'm sure other dealers would be offering it for less, I was able to buy my 12-24 for £30 less than their price.

929Euro is about £626 so going abroad is not looking to be such a huge advantage ?

I'm keeping an eye on SRS Microsystems website hoping for a good body-only price there.

While they are too expensive for lenses (at least eu 50,00 for the "cheaper"lenses), my local store was only eu 50,00 more expensive than the cheapest internet store in the Netherlands for the Ds and cheaper than tekade on the K100D.
We also have Pixmania (based in France) but hey seems to

Cheap and fast delivery but grey import.

Very true, Wim.

TeKaDe has a special relationship with Pentax, so it seems. They are known to have lenses that are out of stock in other shops. I have great confidence in them (I bought my FA 35mm f/2 from them).

Only "drawback" is that they only ship with insurance included, which makes shippng somewhat more expensive. But it's typical for their "quality" approach.

Their site isn't very confidence inspiring indeed. And it does require more than a rudimentary understanding of German.

You can mail them however, they speak English well enough:

Oh right, that explains why he's removed the prices - still, like I say, got my order in early

I spoke with him yesterday aswell - he's meeting a rep today apparently about a few things

Funny, I was looking for the same thing (12-24, ready for a pre-ordered K10D :-).

I speak good German but it's still not really clear - I think the shipping is 31 Euros (the UK most be 'other EU countries') (this is on http://tekade.de )

But the really annoying thing is that they don't take credit cards, so you have to do 'Vorkasse' which as I understand it is basically a bank transfer in advance. This is quite common (and cheap) in Germany I believe, but for us in the UK it's hassle (a trip to the bank) and expensive - ISTR last time I did one it was GBP 13 just in bank fees! At Tekade 12-24 is E609 + 31 shipping

Looked at http://www.cyberphoto.se but couldn't see a way of getting it in English and didn't fancy guesswork.

http://www.topfoto.de/ have a lovely clear info page for GB customers (click on the flag) but also only do 'Vorkasse'. 12-24 is E649, Shipping 27.24 Euros

Looking for more online shops I found this page on the German Pentax site listing 'trusted online dealers':

http://www.pentax.de/_de/photo/haendler/trust.php?photo&haendler&trust

From there:

First one http://www.digitaleyes.de/ takes credit cards and shipping is I think just E11.90, but they don't seem to list the 12-24 (they have most other lenses).

http://www.dnet24.de/ have the 12-24 for just E597.29. Shipping 25 Euros but couldn't tell whether or not they do credit cards.

http://www.technikdirekt.de have a nice English version of their site and do apparently take credit cards. Not totally sure of postage but I think 22 Euros. So 12-24 is E629, shipping 22 Euros.

http://www.ep-netshop.de - lost patience with the navigation, but don't think they do lenses just cameras/kits.

http://www.hamer24.de/ - lost patience again but couldn't find the 12-24 or other Pentax lenses. No sign of credit cards.

http://www.rutten.de/ - E699 for the 12-24, didn't bother further.

http://www.fotokoch.de take credit cards. 12-24 is E629, 20 Euros shipping.

http://www.mediaonline.de/ - couldn't find the 12-24.

http://www.topvision-online.de/ - couldn't find the 12-24.

Think Technikdirect is the front runner just now for having a clear website and taking credit cards.

With 650 Euros = GBP 438ish, probably well worth the hassle shopping abroad anyway vs e.g. £569.00 at SRS.

Cheers
Pete

Email Chris at SRS with that price and ask how close he can get to it - he might say, sorry, can't match it or he might get close enough for you to consider SRS as an option - no harm in asking, but he seems polite enough so worth a try
