Just spoke with CO, they said NOT transferable to subsequent buyer within original warranty period.

Wow, that blows.

Puts a real hindrance on buying and selling, for sure!

I asked about that too....
with the extended warranty though.
I was told that you can't change the name on the warranty, no.

But..... basically..... if it has the warranty card and is registered, then they would probably just fix it and send it back.

They probably aren't going to do a whole background check to see if it is still in the posession of the original buyer or not.

It was the same kind of casual attitude about the kits lens I got.

My kit was a seperate box for body and lens. No indication (to me) that there was anything to signify a "kit".

When I asked if my kit lens was covered under the extended warranty I was told yes. When I asked if they needed its serial too then, the customer support said.. "no... we kind of just take your word on it if it comes up."

Seems pretty casual.
I'd like to get some experiences of people actually trying to use the warranty.

On the other hand I'm happy enough no to see lots of examples here of people having warranty claim issues or problems. Or even warranty work being done OK because things keep breaking. That certianly isn't always the case on the other forums from my quick looks and research.

good question....

There might be a limited amount of time to register??? Not sure of this myself.

Also... if it ever came to it they might require proof of purchase. So if you have a cash receipt that is fine to pass on with sale. If it has personal and credit card info, etc... then... well.. that's more of a pickle to me.

Strange! Which means no one can gift a Pentax K100D to a friend or a relative?

Always pay cash for things. Make the store puts 'Cash Sale' as the name. Be very insistent about that. If their system does not allow that, use 'John/Jane Doe'. Don't give them your address or phone number. Never send in warranty or registration cards. In most states or Canadian provinces, as long as you have the original sales receipt, a manufacturer cannot refuse warranty service.
When you sell, specify that you have a cash sale receipt.

Make sure the camera's serial number is registered with your insurance company. They may refuse to believe you if you show them a cash sale receipt if it's stolen.

But the reality for me is I do more and more of my shopping online.

And honestly these days, every time I spend my time going off to a store to have somebody who has no idea about the products they sell start reading off the box in front of me when I ask them a question about it.... it just reminds why it is ever so much easier to click the mouse and wait for fedex or ups.

Now... sometimes it is good to support local business. I realize that there are many reasons for this.

Beyond bigger issues though, like supporting a local tax base, I have no great wish to keep a local business in business when it provides me no benefit of service.

Of course, in this area, for electronics or anything about all there really is would be large stores like circuitcity or bestbuy.
