-- I never read the threads speculating the rumored upcoming SLR but have noticed subject headers.

If I interpret them correctly all the dialog regarding the S-4 (for the year i have been on this forum) has been for nothing and in fact there is an S-5 scheduled for release soon. Is this correct?

My question is this. Upon which body is it to be based? I was hoping that it would be the F-5. Don't know why other than the fact that it was (or still is) an awsome film camera and might be a suitable platform for the new Fuji if they continue their trend of using a donor body as the primary foundation.
Oh yes one more question . How many MP will it offer? Thanks. Bob

Still all rumors at this point, Robert. Most of the rumors seem to say that it will be based on the D200 body, and the official announcement will be on the 25th. There does not seem to be a consensus on the number of MP. I think think/hope it will be at least 10 + 10.

if finally D200 body , would be wonderfull a single layer based with wide dinamic range about 15M.

But ...

I think should be lower DR than S3 and also noiser .

Let see what can do Fuji with its technology.

--Keith I came here from the Panasonic forum about a year ago. There they talked constantly of the new and upcoming Panasonic DSLR. Having a Panasonic myself at the time I was tempted to buy into that system. I had already a good collection of OM mount lenses cached away from old film camera I had owned.

To make a long story short I became tired of waiting and when I found out about Fuji DSLRs I went for it. I liked the Fuji films and other Fuji optics I have used so the temptation to have a Fuji and use Nikkor mount lenses overcame me and I was able to strike a deal on a used but not abused S-2.

Making this story even shorter and getting back on topic, the Panasonic DSLR finally arrived and I was so glad that I had jumped ship without waiting for it. I would have been more than totally disappointed. There was absolutely nothing about it i liked. Whereas on the other hand I really like my S-2 feeling its almost perfect for me. It came with the MB-16 grip/power supply attached which I liked a lot. I had previously had a grip machined from billet aluminum for my FZ-20 to get that feel of having something in the hand to hold securely.

Lets just hope that Fuji fans are not going to suffer that kind of let down. Cheers. Bob

Well, I think Fuji is at a turning point.... but there's a problem.

Fuji will be coming out with ONE camera. But it's obvious from the various posts in the forum here, we are as a group expecting about 5 different cameras.

Some are looking for a 6-8MP HDR portrait/wedding body. Others are looking for a sub-$1,500 8-10MP general-purpose body. Others (like me) are looking for a 12+MP HDR body for landscape/stock uses.

The problem is, only one group of us will be satisfied. The others will be dissapointed, and look elsewhere (or just stick with what we have).

Fuji's technology certainly has potential, but I don't have a lot of faith in Fuji to take the chances to stretch their tech where they can really compete with the big boys.

For me (and just for my uses), I ideally would like to see 16MP, HDR, and I'd be willing to pay $4,000 for that. But I don't think we'll see it.

What I think we'll see is (yet another) 10MP body, with HDR, but otherwise somewhere between the D200 and the D80 and all the other new cameras that have bunched into that range.

I suspect it will serve as a bridge between Fuji's current type of SR CCDs and the film-like CMOS pick-up that is currently in development. I see this upcoming camera as intended to keep Fuji's name and reputation alive in the world of DSLRs until the truly revolutionary camera can be readied for market. All speculation, of course. I've no inside sources.

Quite possibly true, but my fear would be that the market will be too entrenched by then (except perhaps in the pro arena) to make a real impact.

Then again, it may be just to keep the Fuji name out there. Something to sell with that new mascara they are working on... :-P
