...and even if the OP never does business with B&H again, Henry's posts here have probably gained them several new customers.

It's a cultural thing in NYC. They can't help it. The only way to get around it would be to put the call center in another state or country.--
I have probably spent 30K at B&H and everytime I have had to
actually talk to someone they have been rude.
Pretty wise stance IMO.I'm certainly not going to let a stressed
out phone clerk determine who I do business with.
[SNIP]Over the past 5 years I have spent over $10,000 with B&H.
I am sensing some arrogance on the other end of this as well...One of the most arogant person I have every spoken too
I gotta defend upstate NY. My kid summers there periodically and trust me when I say that once you're north of Albany -- heck, once you're north of I-287 in mid-Westchester county -- folks are just as laid back and decent as in St. Louis or Tucson, or just about anywhere. (A tip of the hat to Penn Yan & Lake Placid in particular).Living in
upstate NY, you should be used to rude people! Sheesh...
On behalf of everyone here I want to say THANKS to all who were kind enough to contribute to this thread. Much appreciated.I have not spent $10,000 with B$H...proly more like $100? I'm not a
rabid B&H fan boy. But they seem to be one of the best, reliable
sources today.
--I have placed several orders with B&H and a few times their
verification procedures have really rubbed me the wrong way
epically when it was a rush order and it was delayed because of it.
After lurking in the forums here for a while and seeing how HenryP
works with anyone that has a problem with B&H or a product they
sell I think, I would have to write off one employee being rude as
an exception and not the rule for them.
Is Rochester in "upstate NY"? I spent two summers there and the people were "rude" IMO. Perhaps your nerve endings have been cauterized and don't react the same way mine do? But I had a good time and liked the people in Scaneateles Falls. So perhaps "upstate NY" is not homogenious?I gotta defend upstate NY. My kid summers there periodically andLiving in

Why don't you move your call center to Penn Yan? ;-)You have to be pretty near the 5 boros to get the real "Nu Yawk."![]()

I'm sorry to hear this. My sister went to college in Rochester and my sister-in-law lives there now so I get there regularly. Is Rochester in "upstate NY"? I spent two summers there and the

Our call center is about the size of Penn Yan.Why don't you move your call center to Penn Yan? ;-)

Perhaps you don't go places where they were "rude"? Or perhaps Rochester has changed since I was there? I remember an attempt to go to the zoo to take pix. All I had was $20 bills. It was early in AM (about 7:00 and no stores were open). I attempted to board a bus downtown and the driver "chewed me out" for attempting to pass him a $20! I was a simple Southern boy...polite, quiet, shy...I walked away w/o saying a word. @#$% bus driver had never had anyone do that I guess...expected a "discussion" or something? He parked it, got out, and tried to apologize, in his "rude" Yankee manner. I just kept walking...all the way to the zoo. It was a LONG walk as I recall. Unfortunately, Yankees have made their bed and they have to sleep in it. I will never forget Rochester. I spent 2 years in midtown Manhattan and never had anything that bad happen.I'm sorry to hear this. My sister went to college in Rochester andIs Rochester in "upstate NY"? There's a chain of grocery stores up there called Wegman's. I have
been in 40+ states on one shoot or another over the past 3 decades
and IMHO I have never gotten service as polite and cordial as I get
every time I shop in my sister-in-law's local Weggies. Super
impressive.
OK, then they will make you a great deal on a long-term tax exemption for doubling the size of the town. I figure the nice scenery will improve your employees attitudes... ;-)Our call center is about the size of Penn Yan.Why don't you move your call center to Penn Yan? ;-)![]()
Same here when I have visited their store. And my local photo store, aside from much higher prices ( up to 30% more than B&H) would never, ever do that. But my most enlightning experience was when a sales person talked
me OUT of buying something. That has never happened to me anywhere,
anytime. Never!
