I have spent the last 2 years accumulating time lapse footage from all over the world for my upcoming DVD release in 2007. It has been a labour of love and I have put a 3 minute clip of a fraction of the material I have acquired on both digital SLRs and HDV cameras on line here....

Below are some stills from some of the time-lapse sequences.....

Hope you enjoy the show - best off to have broadband connection to view it ;-)

Amazing video produced through a novel technique.

Did I breeth whilst watching?

Have you hit 100,000 shots from either cam yet?

Good luck with publishing the dvd.

Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do.

VERY nice images!!!! well done!!

I, too, live in HK, and I've yet to find a single day with a clear blue sky. The smog here is just horrible.

Nice. Your parents must have projected Koyaanisqatsi over your crib when you were a toddler.

But I thought the soundtrack was...derivative. Techno is so 90's. I could imagine something with a slower beat being much more effective.

After having lived in HK for 2 years now I have to say the only thing I dont like about the place is the air pollution/cr@p weather. It is VERY rare to get a day with clear blue skies or a decent sunset. I make sure when it is clear to go out and shoot as much as I can - make the most when the sun shines so to speak.

Impressive.

I can't imagine the hours involved in the editing process.

Very well done.
Thanks Matt,

Its far more time consuming when I time lapse HDV video because of the interlace frame issue. It requires a lot of frame interpolation and therefore number crunching to speed it up if you want it to look good. The editing is the fun part.

'That's what Jagulars always do,' said Pooh,
much interested. 'They call 'Help! Help!'
and then when you look up, they drop on you.'

Hehe yeh loved that movie - I loved Baraka even more when I saw it on 70mm print in the cinemas.

I have to disagree here -the soundtrack on this clip may not be to your taste but the the pace of the visuals is quite frenetic and needs some pumping music to go with it. I have an enormous amount of material (250 DVDs or 1 Terrabyte of raw footage) from the mountains of China to the deserts of Australia which will be far more suited to a slower more atmospheric soundtrack and I will add this in the appropriate parts to give it some "breathing space" and allow the viewer to slow down accordingly. I also have a lot of 2d/3d animation and HDV video footage to also include. This is a very small fraction of the material I have attained and I will add more "teasers" to my website when I have the time.

Thanks for your comments ;-)

But you see, that is where I think you've missed a great opportunity. You've bought into the false notion that 'frenetic visuals' require 'frenetic music.' They don't. There's no such law, despite all the Pepsi commercials and MTV videos we've had rammed down our collective throats over the past 30 years that have conditioned us into thinking this way. Dynamic tension, contrasting elements, preganant pauses, sudden changes -these are what capture the imagination and make things memorable. As good as you video was, about half way into it I found myself prediciting when the next jump to a new scene would ocur, based on the musical tempo/fills I was hearing. And you know what? Byy the end of it, I was anticipating every single one with almost 100% accuracy.

I will take this into consideration and totally understand and agree with much of what you say. This is a 3 minute clip tho and the final editing will have all the sort of stuff you mention. Dynamics are one thing I definitley plan on including in the final mixup. This is just a quick teaser to begin with.

Thanks for the feedback ;-)

Extremely well done. Excellent work. I don't dare ask how many hours of work went into that 3 or 4 minutes of video. My sons and I have talked about creating a video with a bunch of still pictures. You have certainly inspired me.

I really like the stills posted. However, I find the video frame rate too fast, just my preference. I like to see time lapse video, have you thought of showing different scenes at different frame rates?
