Finally I got myself a MCON-35 acromat lens. Naturally I was very eager to go and snap some test shots. Here are some of the very first ones.

A cactus. Now I know that even small cacti have very sharp stings:

A Clover (Trifolium Hybridum):

A fly basking in the sunshine on a tree leaf:

Another fly examining a flower:

And a dragonfly resting on a piece of concrete block:

These are just test shots taken in a haste, so please bear with me and critique softly... ;)

The shallow DOF is problematic in some situations, but then on the other hand it produces very nicely blurred backgrounds. In view of the test shots, I must say that I'm very pleased with FZ30 + MCON-35 combination.

Plenty of new things to learn with this new add-on lens. Bugs be ready, I'll be after you...

If one can't get a good jpg, maybe RAW is not the answer : ).

Excellent for the 1st time out! Nice captures. Is the 35 similar to the 40? I have the 40 and love it! Is the 35 more powerful?

MCON-35 is just a little bit more powerfull: MCON-35 is 2.85 diopters, MCON-40 is 2.5 diopters. MCON-35 has 62 mm thread, so it needs a step down ring 62 mm/55 mm in attaching to FZ30.

Thanks for commenting.

I used the mcon35 with the fz20 and now I use it on the fz30 and I've always enjoyed the lens a lot. Your images here are great! Always a pleasure to see some photos from you Jarkko and I love macros. It will be fun to see you explore with the fz30 and mcon35. Excellent start!

Raynox RADCR250
DCR-250 43mm 2.5x Super Macro Lens

I have seen macros with this Raynox. how would you compare the two Mcon 35 and the Raynox250? which one has more dipoter power or clarity or are they the same?

Raynox DCR250 is 8.0 diopters, MCON-35 is 2.85 and MCON-40 is 2.5 diopters. The more diopters the shallower the depth of field, and the smaller things one can shoot. I have no personal experience of the Raynox lens, but from the photos that I've seen, it appears to be a very good lens, good for shooting small ants and the like. The MCONs are good for bees, flies, small butterflies and small flowers, damselflies etc.

For the beginner I think it is better first to get a lens with less diopters, say from 2 to 3. They're much easier to handle than the more powerful lenses. As one's skills grow then its time get more powerful lens.

Here's a link to excellent info on various closeup (acromat) lenses:

I have a Nikon 6T and use it on my FZ10.. or should I say I have
used it. I really haven't been very active with my camera lately.

How would you compare the Nikon 6T to the others?
What I have heard is that the owners of Nikon T6 are happy with the lens, I don't have personal experience with that lens. However, it appears to be a quality lens. In power wise, it's very similar to MCON-35 which is 2.85 diopters and T6 is 2.9 diopters. Very good first macro lens.
