Bought the D2X recently and an extra battery 4a I believe. The Nikon battery that came with the camera goes dead after only 100 shots Jpg fine. The extra Nikon battery 4A laast for about 600 or so shots. I recalibrated the battery and recharged but still only around 100 shots. Wondering if this happened to anyone else. Both batteries are Nikons.

Battery on my D2X behaved the same way the first few times. And then by the 4th or 5th charge I could clearly see the battery life improving. Now it just does not seem to get discharged ;-).

I'd say the bad battery has some bad cells in it, and isn't recieving a full charge. I'd get ahold of the place you bought it and see if they'll replace it, and if not, give Nikon a call and they'll swap it.

One thing forgot to mention that actual battery performance is also dependent on how you are using the camera. E.g., a lot of chimping, very frequent and long tweaking of menu, usage of VR lenses, etc., do increase battery consumption and adversely impact battery performance. Particularly during the initial days of the camera when you are probably busy playing with the menu a lot.

May I ask was this a NEW D2X or used D2X?? If used then the original battery may be worn out. If NEW then there is a problem with the battery and you should go back place of purchase to have it exchanged or exchange the whole camera for a new one.

Brand new camera and battery. Camera works great with the extra battery I bought which is a Nikon also.

The D2x uses a EN-EL4 battery and the D2Xs uses a EN-EL4a battery so you have the wrong battery or you have the wrong camera.

I thought both cameras could use either battery. The 4a is just higher capacity.

BTW- you should expect a lot of shots with event the 4. I easily get 800 shots per battery, with a good mix of chimping and VR and everything.

Battery life goes down significantly if you do long exposures or if you shoot tethered to a computer. The AC adapter is the right way to go in both cases, if you can ever find one.

If you are using 2 identical correct batteries in a correct way and 1 does a reasonable number of shots (600) and 1 consistently does only 15% (100 shots) it does not take rocket science knowledge to know the defective one should be replaced free of charge.

D2X no S and both batteries work 4 or 4a, I haven't had a problem with the 4a just the 4. I charge it until full but still only last for about 1oo jpgs. the 4a on the other hand shoots well over 600, no long exposures, not hooked up to pc.Not much menu use. I will probably recharge the bad battery a few more times and if it still doesn't work I'll probably send it back.

When you insert the battery and open the D2X menu function "Battery Info", what does it tell you? If not 100% charge or close after a charge, then the problem is likely with your charger.

My D2X batteries get well over 1,000 shots on every charge, and these are the lower capacity original EN-EL4's. If I was only getting 600 shots, I'd be very concerned that there was a problem. I'd expect to hit 1,000 every time with an EN-EL4A.

I've NEVER had a battery last only 600 shots. It's usually 800-1200 per charge. I'd call Nikon, and they'll probably have you send in both the "worse" of the 2 batt's along with the charger. Something is very wrong.

Definitely should get at least 800 per charge. My batteries all allow for several full days of shooting with 1000+ shots per charge. Your battery is definitely defective and should be brought back.
