...my dogs.

I had been wandering why my dogs would get agitated and come back to me every time I wanted to photograph them (D70+18-70).

Until today where I realized that AF-S meant ultra-sonic (i.e. within the audible bandwidth for a dog) and probably a very unpleasant feeling for them.
Switched back to an old 24-120 and problem disappeared.

So new technology is not always better!

That's pretty interesting.

I've been using my 50/1.8 as my dog lens, I'll have to switch back to the 18-70 AFS and see if my dog has problems with it.

Most strange. I take pictures of dogs at dog shows with hundreds of dogs around. The two primary lenses that I use are the 28-70 f2.8 without AF-S and the 70-200 with AF-S and I have never noticed that either had any affect on the dogs at all. Now my D2hs, which I call the jackhammer, is another story. The sound of its shutter when it is quiet in the ring can really attract a dogs attention.

I'm sorry but that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard here.

Not to be completely rude but that is just..........

I have no idea what else to say to that.
