Is there anyway to see the EXIF on these? They are utterly brilliant!!!

you have a fantastic eye and you have mastered your D2h
(particularly exposure).

I've recently come back from Czech Republic and Poland and while I
took LOTS of photos, not many jump out at me like yours do :(

I've realised I don't have a specific purpose for my photography
when I travel on holidays. Although I want to make great photos, I
seem to end up with lots of "holiday snapshots" rather than
terrific photos like you. I think part of my problem is I see so
many new things, I can't stop myself from taking pics as soon as
something attracts my eye.

Could you please give a few tips to poor schmucks like me, in
particlular;
  • First of all, thank you Steve for nice comments. I think nobody should underestimate himself especially on photography. I feel the same way you feel when I look at other photographers photos. Relax... :-))
Was your trip to Italy primarily a holiday or photoshoot ?
  • It was a holiday trip with my wife.
Do you hand hold most of your daytime photos or do you use some
sort of 'pod ?
  • Mostly handholding while travelling. At home, I keep a tripod at the back of my car at all times, just incase.
Do you spend much time "scouting out the locations" or do you just
shoot photos as you get to a place ?
  • I usually try to scout around. But in Italy, since I was with my wife, I was trying to do my best whereever she takes me (mostly shopping places... :-)
Do you set manual white balance or rely on one of the preset modes ?
  • I always use manual white balance which is set to 5300K generally for sunny days and increase the level as the light goes down. Mostly try & error thing. I never rely on preset modes.
What settings are you generally using - A priority, matrix
metering, etc ?
  • I always leave it on A mode unless I'm doing some panning, then I switch it to S mode. I believe the DOF is what makes 50% of the photography.
Thanks Mahmet

You are right of course Mehmet, I know that many of my photos are a bit better than "snapshots" - I just want them all to be fantastic :). I was feeling a little frustrated when I wrote my last post.

I tend to use preset white balance most of the time, most often in auto , but other times I'll change to cloudy etc if I think of it.

I think my comment above is quite revealing (to me at least) - I need to slow down and think more about my photos before I push the shutter
I believe the DOF is what makes 50% of the photography.
I agree, I just need to think about at the time :)

Thanks for taking the time to reply Mehmet.

your amazing photos made me homesick !!!!! It's compliment. I live in the US and I'm abroad for almost two years. You captured the best in the best way of my country. Congratulations.

Thanks

Mehmet,

I keep on coming back to this thread because your work is so wonderful! I had to tell you this again. Mehmet if you have time to help I would appreciate it... I currently have a D70 with the 17-55, 70-200vr and 85 1.4d. This is just my hobby, but in the last 2 1/2 years I've been contracted to do 4 weddings and have done 4 senior session. The biggest I printed was a 24x36 inches. It looked pretty good. My problem with the D70 is that sometimes I have problems focusing on subjects.. back and forth back and forth... and the viewfinder is small but I like the result I get with the D70 image quality... to keep it short.. Do you think that moving to the D2H would be a "step up" in image quality? I just bought the 17-55 and 70-200vr so I would have to sell my D70 and I think my 85 1.4d to get it. Would it be that much worth the change? I have read my threads on this subject but en up in the same place... You seem to be more experienced than I in this subject. Thank you for your time.
