For all of you who delighted in this Canon Forum being #1. My calculations indicate that the Sony Forum is gaining about 100 messages/dayl. Meaning that in 2002 Sony will be King! Now this is messages, they are still behind Nikon in Threads.

Don't really understand it. Also, I don't think that # of messages really indicates the Value of a Forum. But, Just Kiss Canon Goodbye as #1.--Bill Liggett

Bill, old son, you have definately been spending way too much time,
either, in:

a) the sun without wearing a hat
or (^ ^)
b) front of the computer and calculator.

I guess the good thing is competition. If Sony will really become more popular in 2002, Canon should have come up something better to compete with Sony. We will benefit from this then...
Pardon my asking, but why would we be impressed or care with this
statistic?

Who the ^( &% cares!

Well lets think about this now! I would think that the forum with the most posts would be the one that has the most confusion.......Meaning the camera is too difficult to deal with or there are tooo many malfuntions to figure out ..............lol who knows......Could you go through all the forums for us and calculate all the positive responces vs. the negative responces? Thanks -James

Well, Thanks JR. I am a Card Carrying Member of AARP. I don't know your age. I mean my internet experience started in around 1976 when I was managing several University of Hawaii research projects using ARPA Net (pre-cursor to Internet) to collaborate with Colleagues at other University"s.

Yes, I am preHistoric. I mean at that time (1976), we were really impressed with the TI 700 which was 300 Baud (30 characters / second).

Why, Yes, I did spend some time at "Brunch on the Beach" in Waikiki Sunday (12/16/01) without a hat. The Sun & Sky were both Glorious! I also did take 260 photos with a single battery using a G2.

Why, Yes, I do spend a large portion of my day in front of a computer screen. I don't own a calculator.

Wow, Bill. I am new to the digital camera world, but can't we all just get ALONG? Seriously, my idea of using forums is to gain information, nothing else. I asked people questions in different rooms before purchasing my G2 last week, and found everyone to be really helpful. I find your comments to be a bit immature. I do agree that if the Sony's, Canon's, etc of the world are motivated by wanting to outdo the competition, that's a good thing. However, this type of banter is purely childish, silly, and unnecessary in my humble opinion...

Plus, Phil Askey, the owner of this website doesn't really like this type of nonsense.

I guess it's the original poster's poor shot at trying to start a flame war. Mr. Askey usually ban such people from his website.

Well, you're welcome Bill.

Now, that really is mean of you......Brunch on a sunny Waikiki,
whilst I have to take a brolly 1/2 a block to get some lunch.
I also did take 260 photos with a single battery using a G2.
I have taken several thousand photos with a single battery
using my Hexar..............and, yeah, I had to process the
"expletive deleted" (apparantly 'film' is a swear word here)
to see my images.
Why, Yes, I do spend a large portion of my day in front of a
computer screen. I don't own a calculator.
A double ditto.

Have a safe Holiday season.

That's why so many of us have made the move away from rainy Vancouver to the Sunny (today) interior!!!!!!!!!!
I also did take 260 photos with a single battery using a G2.
I'm up to 300 shots so far on one charge - very happy after my last experiance with digitals - an HP that took about 15 shots then screamed for a new battery!!

It could also suggest that Sony Camera's have a lot more problems, therfore relating to more articles/messages being put up !!

No Flame War. I responded to Canon going #1 & I really did not understand the significance! Got to following reply:

I beg to differ. If I were the head of marketing for Nikon, the trend in the statistics would be quite sobering. Just a few months ago Nikon Talk had a sizeable margin. The explosion of posts in Canon Talk occurred soon after the release of the G2 and has continued strong. Furthermore, the vast majority of new posts are related to interest in the camera as opposed to inherent problems with the camera.

I Dont think stats are that important. Useful messages are very important. Phil's forums are very Useful.

Thanks for threat of Phil banning me from this Forum. As far as Phil Askey, well you will have to ask him. BTW, it would not matter LOL!!!--Bill Liggett

Well, this is actually the same type of message that was on the Nikon Forum as they were being passed.

doubt that sony is like betamax...

On automobile foruns you can notice that my "Nissan Micra" threads are leading on "Ferrari 360 modena". You have much less posts on "Canon SLR talk" and "Nikon SLR talk" (there isn´t a "Sony SLR talk" !).

Sony has twice the number of DC´s that Canon and, you know, people post 75% of their messages on the week before and on the 2 weeks after buying their camera. As after 2 weeks, Sony is putting another camera on the market ...

I'll add my bit to the Christmas fun.

I hope that what I'm about to write is not flaming but I'm not sure what 'flaming' is. Here in the UK I think I'd probably use 'trashing' to describe the same thing. Can someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway what I want to say is that no forum, bigger, smaller or the same as this would persuade me to swap my Microdrive for a stick of chewing gum!

A Merry Christmas to the members who've responded to my queries and to everyone else in this very useful forum. --Robert H
