Well guys , I’m about to move to the next step.

I would say get the D50. You'll get a warranty with the D50, and not with the D100. The D100 can take some great pictures, but there is a steep learning curve with post processing to get the images to where you want them. The D50 images, and especially for someone used to the P&S look like the 5700, will look better right out of the box than the D100. The D50 also has the best noise control of any Nikon DSLR (even according to some D2X owners).

Mmmmm! For macro keep your Coolpix until you can buy a dedicated
macro lens. Its mor difficult to take macro with DSLR than with
Coolpix, because DSLR have less DOF for the same aperture (and the
Best Shot Selector in coolpix is awesome for Macro).
Yes, absolutely. This is the one major advantage P&S have over DSLR. The DOF with a P&S can be the equivalent of upwards of f/32 or f/64 (!) on a DSLR.

hey i got my d50 and love it :)! i have a question though . could a tamron or sigmal 28-300mm match my 5700's lens ?
