CR2 files not rendering thumbnails/preview in Adobe Bridge

Dear friends,

just back from the shop with my brand new 350D ... I am a very happy man (albeit somewhat a little poorer 8-> ).

I have been using Adobe CS2 for quite some time but never bothered with RAW files. Now I wanted to play with them and found that my CS2 did NOT have the Adobe RAW plugin. DL the 3.3 version of that in Photoshop plugins/file formats directory and Photoshop itself now works fine with the CR2 files.

What is bothering me is that I am not able to see nothing other than an ICON in the Adobe bridge for the CR2 files (the JPEGS are shown with preview and thumbnail as expected).

Any ideas on how to fix this ? Thank you in advance.

If two people agree on everything one of them is redundant.

How ??? Thank you for any clarifications.

Oh BTW I tried copying the same RAW plugin to the Bridge directory and nothing changed. I should also add that on top of not showing the thumbnails/previews the Bridge does not show the EXIF information for the CR2 files ... sound something is screwed up 8-(

The Camera RAW plug-in should NOT be placed in the "normal" Photoshop plug-ins/file formats directory, it needs to be here:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS2\File Formats

This is all explained in the instructions that you should have received with the file itself.

I forgot to mention, after placing the Camera RAW file in the correct location, you also need to remove it from any other directories it's been placed in (like Photoshop plug-ins/file formats).

Somewhere down the line, Adobe changed the required location for this file, probably to make it usable by both Photoshop and Bridge.

Larry ! THANK YOU !!! You solved the problem. You are a Genius !!!

Your second posting hit the true problem.

Searching for Camera Raw.8bi showed:

1) there where a certain number of them floating around
2) There where different versions with older than 3.3 releases

Therefore leaving only ONE 3.3 version (which supports my 350D/Rebel XT) of them in the correct place solved the problem.

My guess is that the Bridge incorrectly searched and found in some other directory a pre-3.3 version and therefore could not open them up, while Photoshop CS2 did pickup the 3.3 igonoring the others !!!

Symptom of incoherent coding !!!

Again thank you very much !
