Beach (pic heavy)

Aww, 3 is a little cutie, like 5 also. Hard to get it right with so much light, I generally knock the exposure to -2/3 on days like this to try to avoid blowing highlights, and use fill on the people where possible, still not easy though.

The people in yours look ok exposure wise, b/grounds are a bit hot for my taste though, but the result you want is all that matters :)

On framing, again my opinion, but try not to chop limbs like feet & hands off, though I do it sometimes myself when I take a quick shot. Either keep them all together like 3, 4 & 5 or go a closer shot like the sad little angel in 2, or 1 if you left the second arm intact, just some random obsevations.

Looks like you had a fun day, keep posting.

glad to see you didn't drop off the forum, i notice we lose alot of great potential when people fail to respond to posts. #3 is great lol. i love it.

as far as the rest, they are good. i think the ones with people facing the ocean - back it up a little so we can see what they're seeing instead of just their backside. side views are interesting too i think.

good stuff, thanks for sharing :)

I think the third one is the best, also.

I go to the beach quite often and the subject matter is pretty limited after a while.

The one thing I wanted to say, though, is that you really need to be super careful when bringing any camera to the beach, especially a DSLR. You need to keep it in a bag that keeps out the salt spray and sand, the two worst things for a camera. Also, you need to keep making sure there is no sand on your hands when you pick up the camera. It's really a pain, but the camera will last much longer.

Looks like you're off to a good start :-)

  1. 1) Horizon is a bit distracting, may have to work on composition more, like the rule of thirds etc. Maybe moving up or down to isolate the cutie blowing the bubbles. It looks like it was slightly back lit, so it is hard to expose for, but her face came out pretty good, maybe a bit of fill flash??
  2. 2) LOL, reminds me of my little one. To be nit picky, it looks like the front string of the hat is in focus, but the face looks slightly out. But still, a great pic.
  3. 3) Great shot, but watch that distracting horizon thing again. Are you using fill flash? I ask that because the face comes in very well, so I am assuming you are.
  4. 4) Good shot, you have the subject moved near the left third of the frame and he is looking out to the right, so much better composition.
  5. 5) I would crop this so they are on the right third of the pic looking out to the left, so the reason the #4 composition works is the reason this one doesn't (if that makes sense).
  6. 6) I like it, but don't tell my wife...
  7. 7, #8, #9) They all look OK to me.
Good job, looks like a fun day. Hope this helps...
