Another excited new C-2100UZ owner here! Like so many others, I took advantage of the CompUSA $499 deal with extra goodies.

However, my camera is still packaged up for Christmas, and my curiosity is getting the better of me....

I posted to rec.photo.digital, but it looks like no answer is forthcoming there, so I thought I'd go where all the C-2100 users are 8-).

Can anyone tell me whether or not the free battery charger will charge AAA batteries? I had been considering ordering the MAHA charger so that I can start using rechargeable NiMH batteries for my Palm, but when I looked at a picture on the Web, the form factor looked just like the Olympus (when I peeked briefly).

If the Olympus version will handle AAA's, I can save some money....

Thanks.

Hi Keith,

Just recieved my x-mas present in the mail....the charger only takes AA, I was considering the maha also, but with xtra memory, filters, bag and card reader I put the xtra charger, AC cord and lens shade o nmy wish list. I have enough to play with for now.

I have three (3) sets of batteries and they charge in about 3.5 hours per set, ok for now. What did Comp-USA give you x-tra?

I may be speaking out of my ss on this one, because I have never really considered this, but I beleive AAA batteries are shorter than AAs. The charger that comes with the 2100UZ is not "spring-loaded", so is not designed to take batteries of different lengths. So I don't beleive it can charge AAAs. However, It's possible that I could be wrong. I'll have to check when I get home.

As I mentioned in my post yesterday. I found a rapid 2 hour charger by Sakar that's smaller than the Oly and plugs right into the outlet without a cord (great for traveling) doesn't cook the batteries as the Oly does. It includes 4 1800 NIMH's and does AAA's also. Several people have made reference to a site Ripvan100.com and they too have similar units. But for $29.95 at office max you can't beat the price with out the hassles of buying over the net. Some of their older stock has 1400 instead on 1800 so call the store before you go and ask to be sure they have the 1800's.

Thanks a lot for confirming that (although it's not what I wanted to hear!).

I understand the "wish list". I'm asking for some of these things for Christmas from my kids, but some will definitely have to be deferred--not enough kids!

CompUSA gave me the small accessory bag someone else mentioned, plus some digital photography training and $10 off a Sandisk 64MB card.

P.S. Congratulations on your present!

That makes sense, and from what Dominick said, it does--unfortunately--appear to be correct.

Thanks.

Thanks, Paul. I did see your earlier post. This is an attractive option, but I like the idea of the car adapter that comes with the MAHA. Sometime when I'm out in the middle of nowhere 4-wheeling in Canyonlands, I might need a charge and not have an outlet available....

No, your UZi charger will only charge AAs. If you want to charge triples, get that other charger. Also get an extra set or two of AAs and charge them up before Christmas so that you will be ready to go when you unwrap your camera. Enjoy. Santa will be here soon. Have you been a good boy? ;-)--Juli

Well, I have been a little covetous and materialistic....

OK I did all right then.....started fooling around with it last night.to many xmas parties this week...I will get serious with it this weekend. The clarity of the Optical with digital zoom is unbelievable, and that was in a bedroom at night...imagine outdoors with sunlight..
I let you know..I am sure we will both have many more questions.

Later,
DomDP
P.S. Congratulations on your present!
