Iceland!

I enjoyed all these pictures -- the blues send shivers -- just
beautiful. Also really liked reading the historical comments. What
a great weekend you had! Glad to see your gorgeous photos.
Long time no see - been busy ? yes I really enjoyed the trip to Iceland and to see such an amazing landscape. They say travelling expands the mind - and it certainly did that on this trip! Opened my eyes to a new world :-)
(No bicycles there, though??)
LOL!! Well, there were some bicycles there, but I'm afraid the natural wonders far outweighed anything more familair! :-))

magnificent shots....I have just had a look around the gallery..superb!

I have emailed my Aunty Muriel a link to your gallery also, she will love looking at your photo's, she has spent a great deal of time taking field trips of students all around Iceand for a great many years...

She was there just 2 years back as a guide (she s in her late 70's how good is that?)

Nice work mate.

AH,

... transport goods in the '20 and '30s is surprising to me. I'll bet it went on a long time after that.

I clearly recall "Cow" drawn carriages in what could be considered Chicago when I was quite young, bearing fruits/vegies, meat and my favorite the "Clatterman" with the pots, pans, knives and such. He was great; he would sharpen my Mothers knives for free because she had bougth them from him.

I think I became enamored with metal working from seeing him smile as he sharpened the knives.

Wow, talk about going back, huh? Er, and off tangent...

Best,

what a lucky tourist you are,Island must be such an interesting place plus you don't have to be looking around your shoulder all the time for a hooded gangster from some metropolitan hood

You certainly put your time there to good use. It looks like you took the Golden Circle tour on one of your days. Thanks for posting the results of your trip and providing some background history.

"I used up all the memory cards." Now you have me worried. Although I won't be using Raw, I will be there for two weeks in June. I'm taking my C-5060 and Stylus 800. I hope I can manage with 3+ gb.

Just took a tour of the Iceland gallery- Excellent work, my friend!

Hopefully you will find time to add descriptions to your pics- I would like to know more about them....

Thanks for sharing!

Abid,
You are quite the glodetrotter ! Well it seems that way. :o)

The only thing I can relate to Iceland is that Bobby Fischer won a chess championship in Reykjavik.
Saw that terrific ladybird photo over in the SLR forum, awesome ! ;o)
cheers mate

weather and photo-wise. Thanks for taking us along - this is
something I'd never get to see otherwise. Beautiful, and for the
most part, unspoiled country. Great series, again, AH.

You're welcome Judy. The open countryside in Iceland (if you can call it that!) was indeed very clean and unspoilt - and I hope it stays that way in future. Guess i was vrey lucky with the weather and managed to see some real blue skies instead of gray ones! ;-))

Excellent AH. I think we all envy you but of course are grateful
to visit there through your photography. Thank you.
And thank you for dropping by. I know you traveled a lot too in your earlier years so you uunderstand the thrill of going somewhere and being all wide-eyed about it. Iceland is very pretty and picturesque and I think anyone would simply love the clean air, the 'alien-looking' lanscape and the natural spring water! What a treat! By the way the flight over there was cloudless, so managed to see the Scottish highlands from the air - lovely sight :-)

and thanks for the lovely tour - now i want to go! hope to see more soon :-)

oh & thank you SO much for posting 'managable pictures'!! I have cable & some folks post pictures that are so large, file size-wise, that it takes quite awhile to show up, even on my 300k connection.

All the best,

Long time no see Dave - hope everything is OK. Yes, i decided to organise my Pbase galleries a bit better so that its easier to view pics as thumb nails and click on something you fancy rather than to try and cram too many large size pics in a single post in OTF.
I have emailed my Aunty Muriel a link to your gallery also, she

Well I never!!! And she too must have a good many pictures from over the years - and I guess you grew up knowing about Iceland from her. I'm surprised she didn't manage to get you to tag along on one of her trips.
She was there just 2 years back as a guide (she s in her late 70's
how good is that?)
Crikey - that is imporessive!! So there is still a chance she could get you to go along. With her knowledge of the country and your photgraphic prowess, you'd make a devastating team!! Its worth considering...

yep - you got it!! I have an acquaitance there (Prof Filippusson who is at the University of Iceland) and it was his recommendation that we do the Golden Circle tour - which if you start early in the morning, you can do in a day. I travelled in his car (with him driving obviously!) - so I was lucky in that respect and it was possible to get around fairly quickly. The weather was simply brilliant!
"I used up all the memory cards." Now you have me worried.

I see...in that case you're in for a REAL treat! You'll love it! I shot in RAW because I thought the colours etc and the sky was so beautiful that in future I can always post process the images properly and have them enlarged and printed. I was using the review mode a lot because I wanted to delete anything I didn't like so as to free up memory. I was only there for two full days - and still managed to use up 2 GB's worth. So if you're going for 2 weeks, perhaps you should take a lap top with you ? In the evenings back in the hotel you can download the day's shoot straight to PC. Or if you find yourself running low on memeory, start shotting in SHQ jpeg. One word of warning though - Iceland is VERY expensive! Expect to pay double or even triple on some items! So take whatever you need from home. A spare charged battery is a must.

Looking forward to seeing your pictures from your visit! :-)

hehehe...too true!! It was great to feel completely secure and know that there are were "wallet inspectors" around! ;-)) Iceland is indeed a beautiful island with unspoilt landscape and amazing scenery. Lets hope it continues that way long in to the future...

Glad you enjoyed the pictures in the gallery. With so much wonderful scenery I couldn't stop taking pictures!! The otehr tourists were doing the same - lots of "oooh's" and "ahhhh's." I have started to organise my PBase galleries a bit more and I agree - a short description or a title next to a picture would help a lot - so I should start working on that.

Hope the 'new' job is working out well!

Thanks Bill. I'm really enjoying using the E500 and I don't regret getting rid of the 8080 now! ;-) Yep - Bobby Fischer, chess and Reykjavik are almost synonymous with the 1970's. I guess Iceland is almost completely on the other side of the planet from where you are - but who knows, perhaps some day you might visit ? I hope so!

hehe....I think you would fit right in in Iceland - especially with the volcano and lava aspect! The weather I guess is different from Hawaaii, but don't let that bother you - its a beautiful place and a photographer's paradise! They do some very nice lobster and salmon dishes...

I understand. Since I took so many pictures, it was easier to provide a link to the gallery, then yo can just click on something you like, rathe rthan to try and cram lots of large size files in one post!

:-)
