CIS and ink back flow

I have purchased a couple different CIS or bulk feed systems for my Epson R800 printers and am having a problem with the ink back flowing into the tanks if the printer hasn't been used a couple weeks.

Does anyone else have this problem? If so, how have you overcome it? If not, what type of CIS are you using?

Thanks,
Anthony

I had a CIS on my Epson 1280 (which I no longer have) for a couple of years and had no problem. The mfg. web page said to be very careful about adjusting the height of the ink bottles so the level of ink was always close to the level of the ink carts in the printer.

In my case the ink bottles stayed in a plastic box that sat on a small stand. When the bottles were full (ink level high) i took the stand away. As the ink levels got lower I put the box containing the bottles back on the stand.

Basically what happens is a siphoning action in which the ink level in the cartridge tries to become equal with the ink level in the bottle. By keeping these levels close to the same you minimize the siphon effect.

It's just like siphoning gas out of a car's gast tank.

Anthony,

Keep the ink system at the same level as the cartridge. Yes, you need to be pretty exact to prevent back flow or leakage. Your system probably do not have the flow control or air supply cut off.

A good system should have air supply shut off and flow control. If you have more questions, I will be happy to give you a web site to provide information on bulk ink systems.
