How to force format on SD card

I recently bought Sandisk SD 1GB card. I started using it in PPC (Dell Axim) but when I tried to delete a file everything freezed. After that I cant't read, format or do anything with it. I tried to format it on my friends P&S camera, in card reader on computer (the one I used to copy files on the card).

The only utility that even recognizes card is from Lexar but I am not sure if I may perform format because it is from Lexar?

I wrote to Sandisk support but I got no answer in a week.

Format in your camera. Don't do anything but down load images on your computer......Ron
