Camera bag and laptop case as carry-ons?

I have a fairly large camera bag (Tamrac 613/Super Pro 13) that barely meets carry-on size limits, and a laptop case that is a bit smaller but still bulky. Will I get away with carrying these 2 cases onboard an airplane?

Depends where you are. Here in the USA, airports are enormously strict about this. I fly more than 100,000 miles every year and I've seen many people barred from doing exactly what you propose. You might try packing the laptop bag contents in your checked luggage (indeed maybe the bag itself) and simply carrying the laptop under your arm onto the plane. That should work fine. Good luck.

i travel every 2 months here in the US. They allow one carry on and one personal bag. I always travel with a lowepro backpack, and a laptop bag with never an issue except in very small planes. they usualy ask that one goes under the plane (checked on the runway)

Sorry I wasn't clear enough to start with...

Yes, traveling in the U.S.

The camera bag has a compartment for a laptop, but of course my laptop is just a bit too big...about 1/2" of the zipper not closing. Maybe I'll just put the laptop in there anyway and hope for the best. I can find room in the camera bag for any of the other laptop stuff I need to take.

I was just wondering if anyone has had problems taking 2 bags like this.

In my experience Airlines are more tolerant to laptop bags (the business looking ones) than backpacks. I guess they don't want to upset their business travellers.

I've hand carried a large Dell laptop bag and a small backpack without problems many times.

I take two pieces of luggage on board in the U.S. One is my computer case and the other is my camera backpack. However, when traveling to NZ, you are allowed only 1 carry on and that does potentially present a problem. However, in the U.S., no problem.

i frequently carry a kata 204 backpack (the big one, not the 103) and my briefcase onboard American Airlines between JFK and LAX. If anyone raises a question, I've simply told them that the backpack is full of camera equipment and they let it right through.

This is not a problem in the U.S. I always travel with two back packs. One is my camera bag and the second back pack carries the laptop and a few books/newspapers to read. Do not fret, as long as it is a normal size airplane you will be fine.

In the US you are typically allowed one carry-on and one "personal item", defined as a purse, breifcase, laptop, etc. So you have one carry-on (assuming it is of legal size) and a personal item.

I travel 100K+miles, 100+ flights a year with a rollaboard and a stuffed-to-the-gills laptop case and have never had a problem. I loaded up my Minitrekker untill it was ready to burst, along with a laptop case, for a Hawaii vacation last year - no problem on 8 different flights.

Right, the limit on one carry on and one "personal item" is just to make sure you don't take two 22" roller bags on board, but otherwise you really can take two carry-ons.

I have flow with exactly this configuration and never had a problem. None. Laptops are not considered a carry-on bag, and they are very easy to stow under the seat in front of you.

Just don't forget and leave it on the plane :-)

Had a large backpack and laptop on three flights, including a comuter flight on a twin engine prop, and no one said a word.

Apparently it's different going to some other places. In US, though, I wouldn't worry.

This is my experience as well; it seems there is an unwritten rule that exempts laptops from couting as carry-on.

one carry on bag, although I htink they allow women one carry on and their personal purse. I have a backpack that holds my laptop too and was allowed that as a carry on. Ifyou need a separate lap top bag for travelling I suggest you get a soft lap to p bag and just pak it eempty inside your checked baggage.
