Hi, does anyone know if there is any "free" image recovery program which is better or equal to PhotoRescue 2.1? I have tried a few recovery programs, such as dprdemo, FileRescuePlusDemo, Imaging-resource, photorec, etc..., none of them found any files in my damn Lexar card, but PhotoRescue 2.1 did. The problem is that it only showed the images found but would not save them unless you purchase the program :-(. Thanks for any inputs.

saved me three times so far: corrupt file structure...innability to read directory of memory card.

Once while trying to recover from a cheap all-in-one cardreader choke on an Oly 1Gb Xd memory card.
Once with a bad SanDisk 256Mb SD card.
Once from a no name cheap 128Mb CF card.

Each time, many files could be recovered, but not all. Each time, I was pleasantly amazed.

IMO...brace yourself for S.O.L. :-(
Tried with ZAR with no luck! (nt)

Write down the edge number and ask Lexar for replacement. The high speed and pro series come with the life time warranty. I bet you have the 40x 1GB. I sent mine back twice, finally, they replaced it (I didn't write down the edge number for the first time), got it back in a week. Good luck.

Yes, it is an 80X WA card and I am going to send the card in for replacement, but I want to recover the images before that if possible. I am wondering if Lexar will do the recover during the firmware upgraded. Thanks.

Another vote for PC inspector Smart recovery, superb program, will even recover some of the old shots after you have formatted your card and saved a few more on it.

Hi, just want to let you know that all my images were recovered by ZAR 7.9 (freeware). As I told you I had no luck with the program earlier (have tried 3 times), I tried it again today and it worked! I have to select "Recover erased files" option in the "Common filesystem analysis" tab in the Advanced configuration, then it started looking good after a few minutes (showing two green dots - Fragments of filesystem control structure, and some blue dots - Data files or fragments, in the volume map. Those blue dots didn't show up in the first 3 runs).

Thanks for all your inputs, and give a big plus for ZAR.

It needs a separate hard drive. or a partitioned drive.
If you are using it to retrieve data from a card then you just have the program on your hard drive as normal.

However If you are using it to retrieve data on your hard drive then it would have to be on a different drive or partition as would some other recovery programs.

Lexar pre-paid the postage when I sent the card back for the 2nd time. I got another 2GB 80X card recently and format the card before I noticed there were some freewares on it. Good to know it's not really free. Thanks for mention the ZAR.
