I have been evaluating the following software for the D30 and I am at a loss as to which gives the best result. Anyone that can give a quick pro/cons of each I would appreciate. I currently us PS6 for editing.

canon software
bibble
breezebrowser
photo studio

Charles,

I have tried the Canon Zoom software, Scott Professional and BreezBrowzer (I use RAW 95% of the time)

First I need to say that I am not a D30 user but G2 (sorry).

I don'tlike Canon software (its database is not well built and confusing if you move files using another application).

BreezeBrower is well known but lacks (personal opinion) some ergonomic features. I prefer Scott software (the latest version 1.0.0.6), everything I need is there (only missing is an Exposure comp).

I cannot talk about Bibble, because when I try to use tit with G2 RAW files, it crashes (I don't know why yet).

Hope this is useful for you.

Francois

P.S. Scott software is available for free (for a while) to be tested.

Photoshop 6 for editing.

Great, but just when I think I've got it all down... I discover some other way to do something and spend a few more hours/day/months learning yet another tool. Awe inspiring and bottomless…

Panorama Factory and Panorama Tools for panoramas.

The former easy and VERY effective, the latter difficult and at times even more effective.

Breeze Browser and Photo Studio for CRW conversion front ends.
The former reliable and fast, the latter promising, but not quite there yet.

If you have any specific questions feel free to ask. Some of my photos can be seen at http://www.pbase.com/dwerner

Good Luck!

Dave Werner

PS Hate Zoombrowser and have never tried Bibble.

Keep the Canon software for obvious reasons...their stitcher isn't all that bad...then get the Downloader and the Breeze Browser...I've run into nothing that works as well as BB.
But then again...I am
The Nitwit..

First, your question should really be Bibble vs. All Others.

Why?

All of the others rely upon the Canon SDK and DLLs to decode the image. They will all produce the same image with the same settings.

Bibble uses its own decoding algorithms from reverse engineering the CRW format used on the D30 (note that it is different for other Canon cameras, and thus Bibble does not work with G2s, etc.)

In general, the image from Bibble decodes faster, and more accurately than the Canon decode. Bibble is also going through a major revision now to add a group of new features and new interface with full support of the 1D. It is an excellent program with a free trial period. I suggest downloading it and comparing it to the others (Like Photo Studio) and see which YOU like better for output - which is indeed the only issue worth debating.

Thanks for all the replies. I will test them and post some images soon.
